Why I stepped on the scale again… – blogilates

by YouTube Team

Trigger warning. I am talking about scales today. Yup. And I know how most people feel about scales. We hate them, stepping on them gives us anxiety, and throwing them away feels like freedom. But I am here to tell you that throwing away the scale isn’t always the solution. Maybe for some of us, but not all of us. The scale can still be useful IF you are able to remove the emotional and self worthiness component awat from the number. Speaking from my own personal experience here, I have gone through soooooo many different stages of relationships with the scale and I am going to show you how I went from being afraid of the scale to hating the scale to throwing away to scale to having a major BREAKTHROUGH with the scale. I am going to show you how I freed myself from the scale’s power, and put that power back in MY hands and how you can do the exact same thing!

Same here, I used weigh myself before and after gym, repeating it every other day. Feeling guilty even when I bloated.

I found this channel fairly young, so I have never had a really bad relationship with the scale. I step on it before I shower and i decide at that point how much more I need to eat to help reach my fitness goals (I take afternoon showers). I’m trying to gain weight so if I’ve been behind on my weight I try to eat more along with working out. If I’ve been really light I won’t workout that day and try to focus on eating. I love it here and the influence this community has on people!

You Should step on the scale EVERYDAY.
This is the best way to control your food intake.
Your meals are just fuel for your day. Not a pleasure. Not a commitment. Not something the you have to enjoy or not. It is just fuel. You eat what you need. Not what you want. Stepping in scale gives you the results if you are doing right or wrong. And if that make you sad, you are sad because of your mistakes. Is is your fault. And Just You can change it.

This is a great, great video. I like how you make it a spectrum. Some people don't have to get to stage 4 and I like how you learned to eat and just enjoy food.

I read someone about endurance from Evy Poumpouras book that endurance isn’t about physical strength, being brave or courageous. Endurance is mental endurance when you take everything that life throws at you by enduring them.

Also she mentions that’s how people who survived form concentration camps survived when Hitler use to be in power.

As diabetic I have to accept that I need to keep the food I eat in moderation, substitute or get rid of, and eat foods that you must eat. For me I’ve read online that’s backed up by facts for me with diabetes I need to be eating salmon, almonds, nuts, avocados, and etcetera.

lol don’t mind me I’m just a being bit dizzy

the fact that we have heard ’ you are looking good , so many times that we actually become deaf to those words, so we keep questioning and worrying about our body

it’s like once you have finally recieved something from hard work, you can not stop it and it feels like nothing will help you with it
it’s like ’ you are not looking good enough ,

Then why did you care that you lost twenty pounds and made videos about it? God you act like you were huge. Like you don't care what you weigh…. I really don't believe that. If you gained back the 20 pounds you lost you'd freak out.

Reply
Erin O'Loughlin December 22, 2020 - 3:24 am

I bet you could have lifted more when you were heavier than you can now. You have not built any muscle at all since your journey to become stronger….u just shrank your body? How is this healthier. I would have love to see a blood panel to prove how "unhealthy" You were before you lost twenty pounds. I bet you have the exact same markers as you do now. I wish u would just admit it's diet culture and you wanting to be skinny, but Masking it as a need to be "healthy" Personally I would respect that more. Just say you believe thinner is better and that's what you wanted. No one can take away your truth and your goals. Don't mask it as health and wellness though.

as an ex gymnast when i got yelled for gaining 400 grams and my mom constantly writing down my weight at home my relationship with a scale is not good at all. Yes, i felt really good when the number decreased. But after I finished gymnastics 2 years ago i of course started gaining weight and not even in a bad way but the number seems too big and every time i step on the scale it becomes higher. i'm afraid of scales i dont want to know how much i weight because now i workout and see a progress in the mirror and if i step on the scale and will see what i dont wanna see i will invalidate my own work. So i'm not planning on knowing how much i weight ever.

Thanks Cassie. I weighed myself last week for the first time in a few years. I was a lot heavier than I expected, which was a shock, but I realised I am more toned, have more muscle and my clothes size hasn't changed, so now I'm ok and happy to use it as a number to help track my progress 😊

For me thr scale has never have that effect cause my weight rarely fluctuates, whether I'm super fit or extremely unfit my weight doesn't changes so I learned to not associate being/feeling healthy to the scale 🤔

For someone like me, who is constantly making mistakes, it's really comforting seeing that someone who is a phenomenal fitness/health advocate has made mistakes too! You're really helping me change my relationship with food and health in such a positive way. Thank you x1000! Love you Cassey 🙂

I never really cared about the scale as I was always just naturally thin. After my 2nd pregnancy, an abusive marriage,, and giving up dancing professionally, I gained close to 100lbs. I lose some weight and not worry about it for a year or so and get on the scale and realise I've gained 20lbs. I still haven't figured it out yet. I'm old enough not to care about other's opinions of me. I just feel disappointed when I see a cute outfit and it doesn't come in my size and feel sad for my heart and joints having to deal with the extra pounds.

You’re saying everything I have been going through , I’m in stage 2 – 3 , I oscillate between the 2 ! I literally spoil my day because of the scale, and the fact that you said you don’t do anything else because it feels pointless!!!! It’s literally like you were mirroring my feelings and thoughts

I don't think that we can measure people with numbers. But for a long time, it was like that so everyone struggles w them a lot. Don't forget tour value is NOT rely on NUMBERS. You should love your body because if you don't love it you won't be able to find your balance. Workout is an award not a punishment. Everyone keeps straggling with numbers and diet culture. You are NOT alone. Don't loose your hope. Take care.

I went through the same stages of relationship with the scale……started with anorexia at 12 when some girl pointed out to me that I had extra fat in my body. 2 decades of yo-yo dieting, fighting with myself and my food. So horrible! I feel so bad for all the silly things I did to my body. But now, it's different. I can step on a scale and just empower myself to make improvements in my body. It took a lot of years and studying nutrition to get to this point.

Hey Cassey, I really appreciate this video! I had to unsubscribe at some point last year because I saw myself getting a bit upset from fitness content and it was a really good decision. I think that was kind of like my break up phase.. now ready for more, and with a more positive outlook!

I have never had any intention to frequently weigh myself. I am a dense, stocky woman and always have been. I see no value is weighing myself only to have to constantly remind myself that muscle weights more than fat…to only be reminded by the mirror that I am made up of a layer of fat over all that muscle too. No thanks. No need. I can see whether or not I'm at a healthy weight and I'm doing just fine. I just need to shed a little more fat, but I don't want to weight myself.
