Can we get your thoughts on P.H.U.L for natty lifters?
Omar isuf plse do a Barbell rowing session, since the barbell is my most favourite exercise and also the scarest!!
How to cheat on barbell rows without raising your upper body,i.e,how to cheat with just using your legs??
Its a good way to overload while getting a full range of motion and good contraction in your middle back instead of just the upper traps!!
TL;DW You get used to it.
Cool story. But wouldnt this also translate to sickening gains bc of reduced neuromuscular efficency your mucles have to work harder a la noob gains (shitty wording, I know, feel free to fill in the correct fancy words)
My grip is definitely weaker in the morning.
im stronger soon after waking up, weaker at night usually. pretty sure its more about routine than actual time of day
my joints, especially knees hurt in the morning and the technique is way off
Everything you mentioned in this video reminded me of the human CIRCADIAN RHYTHM Has a lot to do with how the body reacts to light exposure and a bunch of other stuff that may influence it. But the main part is the brain's secretion of melatonin beginning at 2100 to 0730 which may also be another factor in weakness.
I'm the other way
Speaking of "weaker", Omar, what do you think about Static Contraction Training? I'd love to hear a video with your take on that! Love your content!
I don't think that this is actually a thing. You should be stronger in the morning, as you're refreshed. I imagine that this "morning neurological deficit" only occurs after people are woken up by alarms before they would naturally and so are working out while their body wants to still be asleep. If you sleep for 10 hours and wake up naturally and then go to the gym, after you've eaten, at
like midday, you should be able to lift more than if you slept for 7 hours and have worked a 9 hour day and go in the evening when you're fucking shattered.
What's going on man, am I not eating my ''green beans''?
we want shirtless upper bod seshs!!
hey omar how would you optimize nutrition for morning workouts?
I hate waking up early to go to the gym, but I've it all my PRs at 8am
Calve session
I always work out around 10.00-12.00 because I work nightshifts
Your dehydrated and hungry when u wake up, your body is 70% water mate
Push session. I wanna see shoulder work.
Circadian rhythms, I believe you shouldn't train first thing. Also, why not interview Dorian Yates, he does hypertrophy best.
its probably actually just because you dont have much food in your system yet since you just woke up and probably only ate breakfsat or something as oppose to training in the evening after 2 or 3 meals atleast already.
Man those were some ugly OHP reps at the end of this video
My dissertation is based on diurnal strength variability, but I'll be looking at it from a biomechanical perspective and investigating how tendon compliance influences PM strength increments. Pretty interesting topic.
Weird , I’m actually stronger in the morning on an empty stomach with just pre workout ..
Good video
Is there a distinction between training in the morning vs. training soon after you wake up?
For example, someone works the graveyard shift and wakes up at 4PM and changes their training schedule to train at 5PM rather than 6AM like they used to, would they not suffer the same 5-10% decrease in strength?
How about if you have an abnormal sleep schedule? I work second shift and workout first thing when I wake up around 1pm so it’s technically the afternoon but my body might think it’s morning if that makes sense.
I'm a freak who loves training in the AM and on an empty stomach. Most of my PRs have been hit when I get in the gym before 10AM
Wtf was that blink at the beginning
I usually train 3pm Mon-Friday but 10am Saturday… I feel stronger on Saturdays.
When I feel low in energy, I do a heavy set of weighted pushups. And I feel like I am back in the game. Does anyone else do this?
BACK Training session!
Can you go into your morning workout with like 400-800 calories? I hate working out empty.
I always found if I ate 4 pieces of bacon 37 minutes before my first warm up set, I was 3.2-4.6% stronger than if I ate 3 pieces of bacon. Any less than 3 had the same effect as 3 pieces, but 5 pieces or more had the same as 4 pieces. I've not done any actual studies on this, but I did the math.
Midday is the best for me as a student especially when my classes are only in the mornings/afternoons
Hi Omar! Are there studies to support the opposite affect?
Back or lower
Actually I feel weak after the afternoon in the morning I'm always hanging PRs in the morning but I think we're all strong at different times
Hey Omar can you follow up on this video with a nutrition talk about best/quickest meal to eat before training in the morning??
Oh thank God I was gonna be thinking bout this for all day now and was gonna be thinking for few more days this video saved me from going insane thanks omar
Thanks, I thought I was weaker this morning because I spent all night jerking off to porn.
I always feel so sluggish after school so I was gonna switch to the morning. Now I’m afraid to switch 😂
I've been lifting for past 2 months in the mornings. I took 1.5 year break from lifting.
COMPARISONS>
MORNING
Squat – 315 x 5
Bench – 185 x 5
Deadlift – 315 x 5
EVENING
Squat – 405 x 10 (OR) 450 x 5
Bench – 275 x 4 (OR) 225 x 10
Deadlift – 405 x 10 (OR) 315 x 10 x 4 sets (40 reps)
Morning Leg Press – Single Leg = 200 lbs x 4-6 reps Max
Evening Leg Press – Single Leg = 200 lbs x 50+ reps
I'm about 30-60% stronger in the evening than the morning.
Even though, in the morning i drink coffee, take L-Theanine and other natural supplements to give me energy.
If i lift in the evening, even if i only get 4 hrs of sleep, work 8 hr shift and don't eat much ,then lift at 5 or 6 pm, i am still 30% stronger than if i workout in the morning with 8 hrs of sleep with coffee,-L Theanine and supplements.
Thoughts?
4 months in on training in the morning and still feeling weak af. Bench pr was 345 now 315 is a GRIND
Hate training In the morning, lack of glycogen, body isn't warmed up over work, sluggishness, it honestly sucks, i really loathe over those who are able to train in the morning, if I have no food it's a no go
