Underrated Jimmy Quinn – Nick’s Strength and Power

by YouTube Team

I think Jimmy Quinn had one of the best physiques of the 1990’s, but due to his affiliation with the WBF I think he was severely underrated.

Another solid retrospective Nick. The one knock on Jim Quinn, and I remember a couple of competitors who placed ahead were quoted in the mags saying this, was he simply had too wide of a waist throwing off symmetry/proportion. Made him look kind of blocky like Cutler but was also dense, thick like Jay. I gotta give Quinn a ton of credit for shredding up the way he did. Notice almost every shot you put up here Jim Quinn had his hands/forearms "blocking" his waistline strategically on those front shots and he did a unique side twist showing shredded abs, serratus & intercostals for hand on head shot. Good examples of posing shots to cover up perceived or real "weak" points and accentuate strengths in comps as Jimmy Quinn demonstrated in these.

Joe Weider presumably was really mad at the body builders who went to the WBF, that after the fold of the WBF. The body builders could only come back and compete in the IFBB if they paid some sort of fine. That made no sense, when I read about it. Apparently that was true, and the WBF guys were buried. David Dearth interview revealed that and another interview with Eddie Robinson.

I wasn't able to give a reference for the David Dearth Interview, as it took place over 15 years ago. I do remember reading the interview though, as it was in a non body building magazine. Eddie Robinson at least his interview regarding his career along with other WBF guys being buried by the IFBB is online.
Look up Critical Bench interview Eddie Robinson.

This is a real tragedy. He absolutely has a great physique. That is really a shame, but you said it: politics.

His biggest problem was his big waistline not so much politics!

Jim Quinn won the North American at 252#, but he was MUCH bigger in his pro career. Me and Quinn trained at the same gym for several years in the 1990's, and I can tell you for a fact he was NEVER out of contest shape-ever. Ripped to shreds year round. I personally saw him on the scales, ripped to shreds, at 289#.

He was sponsored by the makers of Cybergenics Supplements. Probably one of the must successful supplement companies of the early 90s. Very expensive, totally ineffective, but they had great marketing strategies.

I remember seeing him in person at the 1988 Nationals(4th). Up to that point he was the most massive person I had ever seen up close. No politics. Didn't have a decent back and had wide hips.
