Ahh, I'm glad you mentioned #3 because it reminds me of how when you came to my gym and you struggled with that 500ish dead lift, then I jumped on it cold and repped that shit out.  Mahhnigga! 😉

It really really sucks living in a country with no lifting culture whatsoever. It's all "health and fitness clubs". I'm pretty much on my own with all this shit.

Loving your videos Omar. You seem like such a warm approachable guy, just like the rest of us all. Keep it up tiger!

The deadlift is all mental! It's the one lift, I have to be a little pissed off to do well. Way different psych then my squat and bench.

When I go for a PR, first I hype myself up for a few days.
Works for me 😛

I think that the only down to earth fitness channel host is Omar. Everyone else has really just lost their mind.

Not enough people place enough emphasis on the mentality aspect of the improvement process. Glad to see you addressing it Omar. I like the 1st point you made especially, most misses I've seen were failed before the lifter even touched the bar the mind will almost try to break before the body

Good points about being around people stronger than you. There was one powerlifter at my gym constantly squatting 500lb + for reps, made me feel weak but determined, now that hes gone nobody even squats at all. I have noticed myself getting anxious as I add weight to the bar…

What if all the "drama" between @strengthcamp @OmarIsuf @CanditoTrainingHQ and even @Infinite Elgintensity is a ploy so they all get more views on their channels.. It's like the Free Masons of lifting channels. Controlled chaos to control the masses. Eh, never mind that is ridiculous.

Omar's Bruce Lee quote is on point though. The Principal of Individual Differences is something no one should forget. What works for you doesn't always work for me. Top powerlifters, strongman and olympic weight lifters train similarly, but not exactly the same.

And I would love to hear all four of your opinions on the Wendler 5-3-1 program. More specifically the structure of it. Your Pro's and Con's if you will. I like the template, but if you have a template you think is better I would love to learn what it is.

Great points Omar. Thanks for sharing the useful information. Competing in a powerlifting meet is how I became accustomed with #3! It's humbling and inspiring to compete in a weight class where almost everybody outlifts you. Definitely sparks a greater fire in the gym:)

I agree my man, it's the best idea to do the lift a few times in your mind before you perform the lift

Thank you very much for this! I've always heard Elliott Hulse talk about that transcendent rep, where your body wants to give up, but your mind lifts the shit anyways…i always wanted to experience it but never have been able to. Using the technique you suggested, Omar, I was able to achieve this today! For the past month or so I have been stuck on a 205 deadlift. Today I was there, standing at the bar thinking of what you said, and I just kept going! First 205, then 210, then 215, all the way up to 225!!!! I maybe even could've kept going if I wasn't late for work. So thank you very much for this tip 🙂

To the people who have been lifting for awhile: Do you go to failure on every set? I am just starting out and have noticed that if i go to failure early on in the workout, it kills my energy and i have to reduce the weight.

you're either beaten or victorious before you even touch the bar or chalk up. Good shit.

This has been my biggest step in lifting heavier weight. Removing all uncertainty, just giving everything you got in that one set will take you a long way. I was breaking PR's almost every workout for a month straight applying myself this way and until i got back into the habit of being fearful before i lift and fell off big time. I've only recent gone back to a more effective frame of mind and already finding my strength moving up.

I will be a pussy on this, but the "train with stronger people" is very important, i my country( and i've been like in 6 gyms) i saw just 3 people squat full and heavy and 5 deadlift (not heavy)… so seeing strong people and talking to them is sooo damn important
