Using myself as an example, here is when introducing variations for a movement can be helpful (vs sticking with the specificity of the movement). In this case we take a look at the overhead press vs bench press.
NEVER overhead press- got my bench press from 60kg to 135kg 1rm (age 15 to 17) @ around 75kg bodyweight.
Now I'm 21, around 90kg (but much higher bf%}- benching 125kg for a 6rm, 140kg for 1, tried 150kg but failed it- imma try it again after another smolovJR cycle- JUST doing 95% flat bench, and maybe 5% other exercises (band press, pin press, incline) blew up my chest, tris AND shoulders- overhead presses are not needed whatsoever, flat bench uses more weight, which means it recruits more muscle- it hits BOTH the chest and shoulders vs mostly the shoulders and a bit of upper chest- it's a no brainer which should be the priority.
I would say it is better to prioritise the overhead press over the bench press for looks and general carryover to sports and athleticism, however one should still perform the bench press as to not have muscle imbalances.
Hey Omar, your videos are great but I think your video titles could use work to get more views (especially from an outside audience for growth). Your “how to” titled videos get the most views and that speaks volumes for those searching on YouTube because no one is searching “this is why I quit powerlifting” or something. They’re searching “how to ___.” Just my two sense, been a long time supporter since 2014 and have lots of your apparel. Just wanna see you prosper!
