Shawn Ray recently threw some shade towards Kevin Levrone and his recent comeback announcement. So that got me to thinking, who was the better bodybuilder? Shawn or Kevin? So I compared their old photos from their prime pose for pose. Who do you think was better?

Because of the pictures that you chose, it's a draw. Kevin wins in the over 50 photo. They are both waaaaay beyond the level of most Bodybuilders.

Size AND shape – Levrone out does Ray. Ray was a great bodybuilder but he was just too short and this shows in his leg development, which is very, very good but blocky (no great outer thigh sweep like Levrone has). Ray was the greatest 200lb bodybuilder ever.
Kevin has superior genetics, especially when it comes to his freaky traps and delts! Shawn Ray definitely had better conditioning and overall shape though. what I think Shawn lacked was the wow factor, if you look at him he looks great and everything flows but nothing jumps out at you. Where as if you look at Kevin from the front when he pops his delts and biceps it blows you away and because of that I think Kevin was a better bodybuilder
I am a great fan of kevin leverone but to be honest Shawn Ray is the complete bodybuilder ever lived…no lagging muscle groups ..no flaws..kevin on the other hand had many flaws…also kevin was not a hardworking bodybuilder ..he had great genetics

Hard call. But one can clearly see that Ray is a short guy. So the proportions is clearly off.
By proportion and overall look, Levrone wins.
(And because of that Levrone also has many many more wins than Ray).

Kevin and flex wheeler has class of its own, just amazing..but when Shawn enters the scene, he destroys them both by being the most complete ever in every which way despite of being little shorter..phenomenal body ..

taking off the size, shawn ray had the better physique, to be honest, one of the most asthetics physiques of all time, kevin wins in the side poses (side chest, side triceps), the front lat spread and most muscular, but the rest is shawn all the way

For those unaware this video shows clear bias. This is pairing some of Shawn's best photos ever to some less than stellar years of Kevin. In an even comparison it's very close, although I'd probably give the edge to Kevin because of his upper body size and how many shows he won.

Every pose flows better with Shawn. He looks more relaxed and natural and ofc way more aesthetic. Don't get me wrong, I like Levrone a lot but Shawn is flawless.

It depends on what you see as the most important quality… Size or conditioning.
Ray always came in diced, with near perfect symmetry. And, due to his own 3d muscle bellies, looks bigger than he is.
Levrone had all the tools, but admitted to being lazy… Taking time off. His legs were always lagging compared to his upper body. His chest to shoulder tie in was always weird looking. His condoning was not always on point. His back didn't match the front… But he had the 4d muscle bellies and wow factor… And was always one of my favorite bodybuilders

Shawn was more aesthetic and complete and balanced while Kevin had more mass and was maybe a bit fuller. Both great in their own right but I prefer the look of Shawn’s physique overall.

Kevin wins on most muscular and side chest easily. Shawn wins most other poses though. Shawn was the more complete bodybuilder.

Both awesome bodybuilders, my personal favorite is Shawn Ray however. Just like his overall look, shape, and lines better. He’s also WAY harder in all those shots. Shot # 6 he looked NASTYYYY 😯. Some shots I think Kevin looked a little more impressive, particularly the first most muscular. Kevin’s shoulders were way more deeply striated there. Both legends of the sport tho.
