Well back then it was contention quality classic physique over the mass monsters you see today so what will they be judged by? I mean I don't mind but judged on what exactly?

I think it isn't a bad idea. Samir is right, there should be only one Mr Olympia. If all these other categories are to continue, then have the winners of classic physique, open & 212 classes go head to head to decide who becomes overall Mr Olympia!! 👍

Phil Heath's girlfriend should get over it. That would be like Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather fighting against each other. The two of them both hold belts in the WBA, WBC and IBF. Mike Tyson is the heavyweight champion in those federations, and Floyd Mayweather is the welterweight and lightweight champion. It's not unfair at all to call either one the WBA, WBC or IBF champion, and it would be preposterous for someone to insinuate a bout between the two.

Phil Heath is Heavyweight (Open) Mr. Olympia, Flex Lewis is 212 Mr. Olympia, Breon Ansley is Classic Physique Mr. Olympia and Jeremy Buendia is Men's Physique Mr. Olympia.

Nowadays I personally am a better fan of Men's Physique and Classic Physique – they look more natural and realistic!!! #mensphysique #classicphysique

Hey what about Jeremy buendia ? Lights out as soon as he flexes those….. calves!!! 😂😂😂😂😂

Bad idea.
The thing is, over and under 200s had the same kind of physique, even if there was a weight difference.
It's not the case nowadays.

A posedown between those 3? Phil would smoke them without even having to pose

Robert Garland July 7, 2018 - 9:31 am

Weight classes going head to head I agree with. But categories I do not. If the judges can compare an open vs classic or 212 class winner and then declare an overall winner, it will detract from the winner of the individual classes.

I think it would be awesome not only as a throwback but also to make sure the winners of the divisions have to be in peak condition as they would have to go against the other winners

Yea, let's say this happens. What does it change? Nobody's going to stop calling themselves Mr.O anyway, it's not like you can enforce this by law and it's a too good of a title when marketing yourself to not use.

The over all winner will like this new thing, the two "losers" i.e. winner of their class but not the overall, will just say that they don't agree with this new ruling and continue to call themselves Mr.Os and their fans will back them up.

It changes literally nothing except the way the Olympia itself would market things, and let's be honest, their own marketing is shit. Like 99% of the exposure the Olympia gets a this point is through the social media of the competitors, fans (like this channel) and profiles in the sport.

Unless threats of banning people from competitions for miss-use of titles comes out, or something along those lines, I don't see the point of this discussion 😀

That would be a good thing to do.

I am 100% for this change!

I totally agree with this idea. It’s been done before and it’s cool.

Reply

Flex would be mr o!

Reply
Wolfgang Staber July 7, 2018 - 11:56 am

That would be nice! But when you compare the former <200 vs >200, it was only about weight, but the judgement was generally the same. Nowadays devisions are fairly different, so how would the judgement look like for the final round?

Good idea in theory but as we all know, a good big guy will always beat a good little guy.

Reply
S Bain July 7, 2018 - 12:48 pm

No, if you win the open event then you've already beaten everyone.

If Mr Classic wants to be Mr Olympia then he needs to beat everyone, not just a category. With that said, I'm all in favor of having multiple categories, and I'm actually more interested in the Classic event than the open event right now – but the winner of the Classic is not Mr Olympia.

It would definitely end the bubble gut era of mens open pro bodybuilding. The open winner can't afford to take a "Size at all costs" approach and walk onstage resembling a gorilla. Imagine a bubble gut in the posedown next to a Breon or Bumstead hitting a vacuum shot.

Reply
WaspsRus July 7, 2018 - 1:23 pm

I would be ok with it provided that they had to hit certain poses correctly like a vacuum to bring that true nature of body building and showing the ability to not only have size but be able to use it

Men’s open and 212 don’t deserve to be called mr Olympia. Back in the day you would win your class over 200 or under 200 and then you would battle for the overall against the other class. Why the fuck is this pussy shit going on? You only get to face your own class now of days. We should take it back to the old school days where bodybuilding was harder and you had to fight the winner of the other class.

xghotbi1 July 7, 2018 - 1:32 pm

Obviously you cannot judge different categories as its like judging apples and oranges. Its time to evolve and recognize that the sport of bodybuilding has molded in different categories and there different body types, weights, and heights. There cannot be only one person representing the all different types of bodies and be the sole Olympia winner! How can you compare a 5'2 athlete with a 6'0? Or how can you define Mr O and disregard all the female athletes? Times have changed and this sport has evolved and there is still massive amount of room for improvement in every aspect of this sport. IMO

It would be stupid to compare a jeremey buendia with a mens open bodybuilder. The diffrence in muscle mass is just too big

I think I'd would be a really big ticket seller. The tickets for the first time they did it would sell like crazy. I still think the open division would win most of the time but a really amazing 212 and classic versus the open winner would be a sight to behold and a great way for the divisions to compete instead of just shit talking about who sells more.

John Farrell July 7, 2018 - 4:53 pm

I love the idea becuse these guys are champions in there division but the idea of a showdown to see who really is the Mr.O of the entire competition is a good idea would be great to see

I like the idea! Maybe give more power to the fans in the overall title. Let the "experts" determine the best in each division, and the overall title winner could represent who we want to represent bodybuilding.

Classic guys would look hella smaller than guys like phil but they’ll make guys like phil even more pregnant looking

Reply

Yes absolutely!!

Reply
Grey Knight July 8, 2018 - 8:26 am

It's all semantics. Guys other than Phil simply need to stop calling themselves e.g. "3 times Classic Physique Mr. Olympia" and rather use "3 times Mr. Olympia Classic Physique Champion". Sounds just as good and honestly absolutely no one really cares about these semantics at the end of the day, except for Phil lol.

It's funny no one even thinks about suggesting Men's Physique for this idea. They're basically thrown in with the women's classes, as they should be

Reply
LilGasdaddyPhD July 8, 2018 - 7:43 pm

Seeing the pose off would be awesome. Open would likely win most of the time anyway, so I don't think there would be any real negative consequences.

Reply
Dennis Inkwa July 9, 2018 - 7:32 am

I like Samir Bannout's suggestion. Fabulous! Breone or Terrence as Mr. O is good for the sport. Bubble gut bonanza's should come to an end!!

Reply
Gary Laskowski July 9, 2018 - 12:29 pm

I would say the 212 is real bodybuilding and should be called Mr. Olympia. They should have a pose off for the only Mr. Olympia champ then. We could get surprised one day.

Reply
wolololer July 10, 2018 - 9:02 pm

this is an awful idea when i read the title i thougth he wanted to vanish every vategory and only have 1 MR.O.
if that was the case i would suport it, fuck the limits, fuck the fatys and the short dudes only a mix between classic and the current open

Reply
Reginald Wilson July 14, 2018 - 11:26 pm

I don't like the idea because each division has their own perception of the perfect body so I don't really think you can compare them

Reply
Terry Terry October 13, 2018 - 3:07 am

She wasnt saying they should go head to head for the title. She was just saying that phil should have it and phil only

Reply
Greg Tobert December 6, 2018 - 11:26 am

Yes lets see Flex go head to head with Phil to decide who is the best.

Reply
Owen Le Blanc March 7, 2019 - 9:18 pm

I would only see this as acceptable if you compared them to a theoretical ideal in their category. Otherwise it's pointless and the men's open would likely always win despite the fact that Men's physique and Classic physique are just going for different looks.
