Respected bodybuilder and fitness expert John Meadows passed away at the age of 49 in his sleep on Sunday after suffering a pulmonary embolism. He is survived by wife Mary and twin sons Jonathan and Alexander.
Known as the “mountain dog”, John was a reliable source of advice on all things bodybuilding and was trusted by many for his coaching services for their show prep.
To me, he was not only a standout in the fitness community but perhaps most impressively for his achievements off camera as a dad. In my conversations with John I could literally hear his smile every time the subject of his wife and kids was brought up.
We never really discussed fitness. Our chats would always turn back to our boys (he and I both have twin sons), football, family and dogs.
He will be sorely missed by all those who loved him and valued his teachings.

Nice tribute, Mountain Dog is the reason I'm back working out today. His videos exemplified how you can make gains without going heavy. He was my Go-to for fitness advice. He will be missed, but always remembered during my workouts.

I had a dream the other night I was in a nutrition store and I saw him fixing up some products in the store. Sounds crazy but I swear it was realistic, I went up to him and said no shit John meadows, I follow your platform and big fan your information and advice has helped me a lot. He gave me a pep talk like in sandlot when babe Ruth spoke to the kid. Told me no matter what it’s never gonna be easy but if you stick to your goals, you will always achieve anything. Then he gave me a fist bumb. Never met the dude. It was as real as day. Rip.

I met John in a Oklahoma bar and he bought me a couple of beers as I had lost my job that week what a great guy who else would do that with a complete stranger RIP John your the best
I've never felt this sad for a passing of somebody who I only knew through YouTube. A huge influence to my training journey and a man whom I respect so much. RIP mountaindog.

Having lifted weights for over 4 decades…..this fucking guy is legit. Ive seen more fads in the gym than you can imagine. Johns methods work. They are what developed bodybuilding. The basics properly. RIP My friend
