No one else competed because they new they could not beat Arnold. It was no contest when Arnold beat Sergio…..It wasn't racism. The real racists are the ones who complain about racism.
It's about who is going to make the most money for the sport. It's a business. I expect nothing less. A competitor needs to honestly assess whether or not they have the potential to represent bodybuilding and generate the most money. Weider probably invested in the Conan film. Arnold's win was supposed to help box office sales.
IFBB made some mistakes in the past, such as Dickerson's win. What a disappointment that was. Kai Greene might have won if not for his bubble gut and that stupid hair whip he should have gotten rid of years ago. All Mr. Olympias considered, the IF$$ have been on the money (pun intended) most of the time.

EVEN IF there was no under-the-table-kibitzing—being constantly touted in Weider's magazines as someone with near Cosmic Talent and Proportions would be sure to sway some of the potential judges to some degree.

To me, Serge Nubret was the most aesthetic muscle man on the planet–then and would still be today. I cannot believe he did not beat Arnold. My God, to see him up there with the lights down on him, the hollow eyes, the shadows, a panther body of fluidity, et cetera. I have never been more impressed with a bodybuilder up there on the stage. Why he didn't win? It's complicated, I guess. I just can't believe this happened. He was out of their league, in my opinion. May he rest in peace.
Arnold became the governor of California. Of course he won no matter what kind of shape he was. He's a politician.

I wish some filthy-rich billionaire would become a big bodybuilding fan and decide to simply buy IFBB (because he can), as new owner kick all the crooked figures out, and make the sport about the athletes again. As long as Mr. Olympia is based on a business model it will remain a complete BS as a sport.

I do think if things continue to progress the way they've been processing in Middle East bodybuilding, they'll absolutely start they're own gig. ESPECIALLY with MONEY being no object to them!

The biggest robbery was 94. Shawn Ray was by far better than a wrecked Dorian. Ronnie finishing 2nd in 06 was silly too, with a half a back. They say that backs win the Olympia? Then how does half a back get 2nd? Anyone other than Dorian or Ronnie showing up with a missing bodypart, they finish dead last.
