I don't know if you've figured out the answer by now, but it's soemthing to do with the density of the muscle and the type of growth you are going for. The abs are a very dense, thick muscle group and are made up mostly of fast-twitch fibres, which are better targetted by high reps of low weight (around 20 reps is good – make sure you're still going to failure, like any other muscle). The chest, however, is made up mostly of slow-twitch fibres which respond to lower reps and heavier weight.

U got it switched. Chest is made up of mostly fast twitch fibers which are called "fast twitch" because they are more effective at fast movements or high strength movements such as push-ups or bench press. Slow twitch fibers are not as strong or able to put out energy as quickly but they can work for longer periods of time. The abs main function is to stabilize your core all day so they are made up of mostly slow twitch fibers.

No but if they dont you are always going to have to be like 8% bf for them to show. And if you want to continuously be putting on muscle mass for most of your life your bf% is going to have to be higher than that therefore you will not be able to see your abs as well. It will be like they are not even there. Do you see the problem?

My coworkers laughed when I told them I was going to build muscle with "Smashing Ripped X", but then they saw the results. Do a search on Google for Smashing Ripped X to see their reaction. (You should see their faces!)

Crunches by themselves mostly work the upper abs. You'll need to target your lowers abs with something like the reverse crunch. You also need to circulate your abdominal exercises to prevent plateauing, which is when the body adapts to the movement and you no longer get much from it.

No, not really, That noise actually has a purpose to it. It helps with a better contraction. In fact when he des that noise he is thrusting his abd / obliques / the muscle that he works out as hard as he can, There is a method behind the madness, actually 🙂

people do use weights during certain ab exercises because they've built a tolerance to just their body weight so they need more resistance. Abs are endurance muscles so that's why we do high reps with them

. funny. when you go to the gym you can find many personalities and is obvious, but funny.like this guy, there are many who breathe like they have air brakes. but the one I hate, is the one who pretende to fight in front of the mirror like saying… Hey people! look at me I know martial arts. funny when you really know something you do not need to pretend. and there is also the one who walks like (upper crossed syndrome) so the pecs look bigger … well, according to them.

Hi Scott, I've been watching videos all over youtube looking  for the best workout specifically for love handles. Could you make a video for it? I also learned that side bends are not recommended, since oblique muscles are sideways.. could you enlight? thanks. SHF rocks!

Hey I would love to figure out an ab-routine for people like myself who had a lower back injury, I need to not bend my lower spine very much at all.  I do side planks with dips and lots of plank variations as well as some isometric excersizes and sometimes half-crunches.  that fourth excersize that that you showed would kill my back.  I may try the first and second though and see how it feels.
