Natural vs Enhanced: An Honest Look At Bodybuilding – OmarIsuf

by YouTube Team

[FOLLOW ERIC HELMS]

The debate of natural vs enhanced lifters focuses on aesthetics, the end outcome of the training. How an individual looks. But what might be more interesting is a look at ascetics, the self discipline that both sides focus on.

Frank Zane did not just have a great physique, his mindset, focusing on a holistic approach to lifting is just as important of a contribution as his aesthetics. Eric Helms espouses a similar philosophy, 40 years after Zane competed.

Is bodybuilding ONLY about looking ridiculously good? I don’t think so.

Everybody talks about aesthetics in bodybuilding, in this video today we consider the ascetic component to lifting.

I'll sum it up really quickly: If they have a really good physique, they're probably on gear. End of story.

Bruh, why you always talking about natural vs enhanced? If you're tired of being natural, just take gear already. Shit.

what the hell ofc eric's physique is veeery good, midsection much better he lacks only in arms and a little bit shoulders and chest but you can't expect huge guns in that shredded state even with the juice i think it's difficult.

It's generally known that steroids will make you stronger and bigger than you could ever get naturally but hardly anyone knows just how big the difference is. For a natural lifter on say the squat or bench press the weight is quite low. Furthermore you can train for years and still only look slightly bigger than you would if you only had a physically demanding job as your exercise. Steroids on the other hand (based on the amount taken) has the potential to change your appearance from lean and small to shredded and massive. 400lbs/500lbs on compound lifts is common where as a natural your basically looking at 1.2-1.5x your bodyweight as your heaviest lifts.

I agree with the discipline and carry over. I'm happy with a four pack and my muscles being full. I'm not chasing a bodybuilder physic either. I work physical demanding jobs so I I'm doing what makes me the best at what I do. I love the iron therapy, and how far it has helped me in my life. To each his own.

Fucking awesome video, Omar. Love it.

I've VERY much experienced that increase in discipline from lifting. I did literally nothing before I started lifting. Nothing. Internet, t.v., fantasy books, games, etc. I was purely into escapism and tried to avoid all aspects of life, even basic hygiene, even eating a sufficient amount of food to sustain my body. I ended up falling from 146 pounds to 115 pounds, then was finally like "Okay, fuck this." Started lifting, got back up to 145 pounds this year, and now I'm going to college, majoring in Computer Information Systems. A main driving idea for the reason I felt I could go back to college was "Well shit, look at all I've accomplished with one year of lifting weights. I managed to stick with it, and my diet; and, if I can stick to that, I bet I can stick to college, as well!" I love that ideology. Lifting not only being a means to an end, but an end in and of itself, forging not only an iron body, but an iron will, dedication, discipline, enduring.

Eric is a super cool dude and very knowledgeable but ha has very avery genetics, there is no question about it. But what he does well is maximizing what he can actually do with what he has. thats my take on it

I wonder if you are counting those who take SARMs as natural. I think most "natural" athletes today are taking things like RAD140 that wwhile not steriods definitely result in unnatural gains.

If Eric Helms did not remain natural, he would still never approach the potential of Frank Zane. Apart from training, it’s mostly about muscle length. Take Helms’ long head of his triceps when the arm is extended. His long head stops just short of half way down his humerus, where, in Zane (when seen in Zane’s prime), his long head extends three quarters of the way down. The same can be said for the deltoids and quadriceps, as two other examples. The man with the longest muscle bellies ever seen and consequently with very short tendons was Sergio Oliva. And there you have it.

Frank Zane never used enhancing drugs, he only admitted during the years that he took different amino acids. Which is BCAA. Just so you guys do not think the legend went on drugs.

If Eric took steroids, of course he would look like Frank lol. People have seen nothing but steroid users in bodybuilding and compare naturals to that. People think naturals look like male fitness models. Heck, even fitness models are starting to look like ifbb pros since they take steroids too lol.
