First off, there’s a big difference between belly fat and the rest of the fat on your body. The fat directly underneath your skin is called subcutaneous fat. This fat is relatively easy to lose. Sound eating + hard training will melt subcutaneous fat.
The problem area is when the fat starts being stored in your belly. This spare tire or beer belly is known as visceral fat.
Visceral fat is located between your organs.

There have been studies linking visceral fat to insulin resistance, elevated levels of inflamation, faster aging, glucose intolerance, hypertension and more.
Not only are you getting puffed but you are getting sick and old too! This stuff wears you out.
Here is the scary part: you can be THIN on the outside and still have visceral fat around your organs. THIS is what a skinny fat individual is! You are lacking in muscle and with a good amount of visceral fat.
True story: Studies show that a good portion of thin individuals have almost as much visceral fat as pudgy dudes.
Now, We know that visceral fat is caused by being inactive, stress, and eating too much refined carbs. The biggest undetected culprit of belly fat by far is the hormone cortisol, which is raised by stress.
So not only do we have to train hard and eat well, but we also have to remain cool all the time? Sounds like a tall order.

cheff my GF is damn overweight (she has hypothyroid and is on synthroid) and she does not sleep well at all maybe 2 hours a night. I need some advice man! She is doing stronglifts 5×5 with me for 2 months now. but is hardly seeing any results, She is on a great diet protein veggies good fat. Help me cheff your my only hope!

Hi Omar, I am a female , 98 lbs for 4'11. I lost most of my belly fat but still have the lower belly fat, not that visible but I can pinch it. I do weight training ( heavy squats, deadlifts, bench presses… ) and gained some muscles all over.Do you think I should continue to drop body fat by dieting or do more core related exercise? Thank you
