im not quite sure what your talking about but maybe he was saying that you should have your muscle contracted the full range of motion. For example if your doing a situp dont take a rest at the bottom of the motion

I don't have a machine like this…but, I can position my bench to get the arch in my back….if I was to hold a 25LB weight or higher behind my head while I did the crunch to get the full range abdominal contraction…will that put me at risk for injury?
