FYI I just made this w/tea tree and grapefruit and the tea tree really overpowers the grapefruit unfortunately. Even when I added extra grapefruit drops! 🙁

Could I just boil water instead of distilled?

So it's 3/4 of the bottle with distilled water and 1/4 of the remaining space with witch hazel? or is it just the remaining quarter that we fill with witch hazel? Also what size bottle is best?

I use this spray several times a week and it works a charm. I do need to invest in some different spray bottles, though as the ones I have are not satisfactory. Time to upgrade!

Hi Adrienne – I love this idea but i'm also aware that tea tree is toxic to dogs, I'm sure its fine as long as your dogs don't lick the mat ! 😀

I just found this little gem, headed over to Whole Foods and picked up supplies and made this an afternoon DIY sensory craft project with my 9 year old daughter and we had a nice time together! Thank you for this great idea ! Oh yeah, and I cleaned my mat with it too!

My mat is cloth! It’s amazing but is starting to get a little iffy 😂 I wonder if this would still work.

I have a question, if it's for mat usage, why alcohol free witch hazel? I was looking for one 100% natural, but most of them I found contain "Natural Grain Alcohol"… The alcohol free ones contain other extra ingredients, not saying they are bad, but I just wonder why alcohol free 🙂 ???

And beside that – thank You Adrienne for all the content <3

I swear by Adriene's yoga mat spray. I am addicted to mixing and matching oils because of her.

My favourite is lemongrass/eucalyptus and I use it for everything…. yoga mat, room fragrance, my boy's smelly boots…works like a charm!

I highly recommend the effort it requires to make it yourself and it's good using a spray that has no nasty chemicals in it and smells so amazing. Once again thank you Adriene!

Adriene, you’re the best! Thanks for helping me (and many others, I’m sure) improve my health bay by day! Question for anyone who’d like to answer: I have lemongrass but my hubby doesn’t care for tea tree or eucalyptus. Any other (more subtly scented) cleansing oils I could choose, or would lemongrass alone with witch hazel and distilled water do the trick? Thanks in advance!💗

What is the witch hazel for?
I don't think I can get that here. Does it bind the oils and the water together? What can I replace it with?

Reply
Mike Harvey May 17, 2021 - 4:24 am

Lemongrass smells wonderful but one of my massage clients said the smell made her hungry for the rest of the day when I used it on her. 🙂

I have bought witch hazel, and it seems slippery and leaves brownish spots on white clothes. Did anyone else have the same experience?

I’m not sure if anyone has said this yet, but just wanted to inform everyone that tea tree oil is toxic to dogs/cats! In case any of your animals love to crawl on your mat as much as mine wants to.

Typed out the instructions for my own use and thought I'd share:

Adriene's yoga mat spray

Ingredients:

Distilled water

Essential oils (In video: tea tree, lemongrass, eucalyptus, lavender)

Witch hazel (alcohol free)

Spray bottle

Directions:

1. Fill bottle 3/4 with water

2. Fill rest of bottle with witch hazel

3. Add essential oils:

Version 1: 5 drops each of tea tree and lemongrass

Version 2: 5 drops each of lavender and eucalyptus

4. Shake it up to mix

5. Test and sniff!

I love that Benji walked (strutted?) by the camera with his new bone…totally made me smile. Just made my sprays: lemongrass for one and sweet orange for the second. Thanks so much for sharing, as always. Three years and counting for my Yoga With Adriene (and Benji) practice…don't know what I would do without you guys!!💖😊🐾
