So the moral of this story is that Joe and Ben Weider were two old scumbags.

I remember a quote from Eddie in a Flex magazine from the 90's.
" I believe in blasting. None of this feel-the-way-down-twitch-fiber-crap!" LOL. It clearly worked for him. Great guy

Sorry Nick, that was NOT the attitude era of wrestling. WWF was on a downslope at the time. Attitude Era is late 90s early 00s.

The more of these videos that you put out about the Weiders "disowning" good bodybuilders for "betraying them", the more I absolutely HATE the money-grubbing, GREEDY Weider brothers… and trust me, I grew up listening to and reading Joe Weider's magazines and following his "principals". As an adult I know realize how many people he screwed over. NICK.. please do a video on the money grubbing Weiders..lol

It wasn't the attitude era then, that didn't happen until around 98 when Bret left.

Great vid. I remember this guy. In the early 90’s I started following body building and saw this guy often in the magazines. Never knew his placings or show status but I thought he always looked terrific and was certainly a contender against the crop of top body builders of that time.

FYI, look up Eddie Robinson on his FB now. Almost Paralyzed. At least 4 surgeries on his back and shoulder. He will never be the same again. Totally Sad. https://www.facebook.com/erusa89/

I'm not a bodybuilder, or even a fitness person, but I've had several friends who competed at regional contests; I attended their competitions to support them, and thus got to know other guys who were into the sport. Without exception, they described Joe Weider — the Duce, Fuhrer, Great Leader of the IFBB — as the most vicious, vindictive sonuvabitch imaginable. He went after all the pros who had left for the WBF, and then tried to come back (like Eddie Robinson) as if they had murdered his children. This is particularly striking since he and his partner-in-crime, his brother Ben, could have made a mint by welcoming these men back and then aggressively promoting their images and careers. (Robinson in particular was extremely popular with audiences, and would have been a gold mine for a good promotor). Weider also destroyed the career of Bob Paris, the inhumanly handsome rising star of bodybuilding, because he came out as gay. (As if bodybuilding didn't, and doesn't, draw a good deal of its audience from the gay community). Fortunately Paris found another career as an author and rights activist. If Eddie Robinson really IS a "forgotten bodybuilder" today, it wasn't due to anything HE did.

Heard he was preparing for a comeback in the masters Universe? But suffered a really bad traumatic back injury back in 2018. Pretty sure it ended any comeback aspirations but not sure . Haven’t heard anymore about him. Was an incredible bodybuilder. Nick, do you have any updates on him? Maybe you can do a follow up video.

Back in the day I had a book that I am thinking was written by Robert Kennedy although I could be wrong but anyway it had a life-size picture of Eddie Robinson’s arm with a tape around it measuring over 20 inches and I carefully removed that picture and hung it in my basement gym. I always admired him not just because of his size but also his incredible power and I remember reading a story once where he showed up at a bench press contest on the beach somewhere in Florida and laid down in his jeans and T-shirt and smoked somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 pounds. He was a legitimate freak of nature.

He truly was an unfairly forgotten bodybuilder. You CANNOT blame hard working bodybuilders trying to make a decent living with secured money rather than placings only plus any endorsement income…TALK ABOUT SHORT CAREERS OFTEN…They needed to get it when they could,THEY WERE ONE INJURY AWAY FROM INSIGNIFICANCE POTENTIALLY.
