Do Leg Extensions BEFORE Leg Press! (BUILD MORE MUSCLE!) – ScottHermanFitness

by YouTube Team

If there’s ANY chance that a new technique will result in more gains, even if just 1cm of muscle growth… you and I both know that we’re going to try it. There’s nothing worse than being stuck in a muscle building plateau, but the last thing you need is a distraction that’s going to take you off-course.

In fact, I’ve actually talked about pre-exhaustion training in the past and have incorporated it in some of my workouts. If performed correctly, you can certainly achieve a much greater “pump” during your workout, but is this leading to more muscle growth?

Well, I think there are many factors to consider when determining if a technique like this helps build muscle and I believe, based on my own experience training clients, that there are other benefits that come with pre-exhaustion training it aside from “muscle gain”.

I’d love to know your thoughts below if you’ve tried this technique and I think it’s definitely worth your time to check out a few of the studies I referenced in the video.

The key is to do LIGHT WEIGHT leg extensions, if you're going to do them at all. 1 set of 20 of light weight isn't going to tear your knees up. Now, maxing out the leg extension machine and cranking at it every day, is going to place shearing force on the patella, which your patella tendon isn't meant to handle such weight in one spot. I personally, sometimes feel burning in my knees and they crack a lot when I do leg extensions. Instead I do wall sits or split squats in place of leg extensions to activate my quads prior to squat. I would suggest those exercises for those who aren't big on the leg extension machine like I am.

Problem is even after Overcoming a plateau you still reach genetic threshold.

So many great ways to get off plateaus, don’t listen to this bullshit. Heavy weight, strong mind muscle connection and lots of food is your answer to muscle growth. Adding in a bunch of high volume light weight is going to do fuck all and probably make you all smaller. Terrible advice

Personally my loading schemes are all dealing with moderate weight to heavy weight, so I usually get the compound lifts out the way then hit the detailing machines

Would you recommend Linear Progression, Linear Periodization, or Concurrent Periodization (as the most effective) for beginners?

Hi Scott! I could use some help. First time reaching out to this extent, but I would greatly appreciate it. You see, I teach for a living and am always exhausted by the end of the day, so I've been trying to go to the gym in the morning at around 5 am. It's been so hard, though, and I've fallen off the horse again. My goal is to gain weight and lean muscle and I recently stopped taking Optimum Protein Serious Mass and taken up Sytha-6, which as you know, has less calories. It is also easier for my body to handle. Yeah, there's a lot of factors going on, but this is my goal! I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or even simple words of motivation. I know I can do this!

Tbh the way you tried to eplain it with the bench press example made no sense at all. If my chest already gives in first even when fresh with shoulder and triceps taking over. Shoulder and triceps would take over even earlier bc my chest is pre-exhausted right? 🤔
