DANA LINN BAILEY | TRYING CROSSFIT 1st ATTEMPT @ GRACE 101915 – DanaLinnBailey

by YouTube Team

Today we tried something a little different for our workout. We’ve been having a lot of fun training and being open to new things. Rob challenged me today to plan a workout we could go head-to-head in. After some thinking everything pointed back to the same thing…crossfit (?) We’ve never tried anything like it but figured we would give it a go. Some of the different workouts looked up my alley but “Grace” seemed like a good place to start. Clean and Jerk (135/95) 30 reps, timed. Since this is new to us we are not sure if we did it properly but either way it gassed us. We’d love some feedback or ideas for future challenges…

Solid attempt. The times are nothing to be ashamed of. A couple of technical flaws, but nothing that can't be taught. Her husband is a great motivator, which is always good to have. With some solid coaching, their times and technique will improve. Again, great effort by the both of you.

this is so pointless its unreal. Crossfit has more injuries while moving 1/3 of the weight of Powerlifting and olympic lifting.

Good effort… but it's a test to see how fast and hard you can go. Taking it easy, pulling faces and talking for the camera is not an option. You could have Rx+ the workout about the regular weight! note that the weight given is an average for all. Stronger people are advised to go heavier.
Do another crossfit WOD, but do it to the best of your ability to have a clear idea of how fit you really are. Do a hero WOD or Crossfit games WOD for example, (for time etc). I think your body would be in for a shock. Crossfit tests all areas of fitness (strength, power, speed, endurance, coordination, adjility). No bullshit, just proof!

Ps crossfit always looks for form. like in anything else, people try to cut corners. hence judge at competitions. a bad fitness coach is a bad fitness coach, regardless if it's body building, crossfit or other sports coaching. end off line.

No technique on the clearn & jerk,, thus not efficient at performing this exercise. Regardless their good strength these should not be counted as valid reps

Clean and press for reps. Why does this need to be labeled as "Crossfit?"

Reply
Maamoun Mohammed November 25, 2015 - 7:13 pm

You guys did awesome! When you press the bar overhead make sure to shoot your head through and keep it in a neutral position so the bar is straight overhead. You guys are insanely strong because those were more like muscle cleans. Rob was doing strict presses too haha damn! AWESOME VIDEO!

Hella impressive for your first go at this! Not as efficient as you could be in the clean or the shoulder to over head, but you guys got the job done and in great times! You guys should do a drop-in at a local CF gym or weightlifting gym to get some pointers on the Clean, Jerk and Snatch. Then it'll be much easier to get faster times, but still super impressive for powering through. You guys should give FRAN a try. 21-15-9 Thrusters and Pull-ups.

Dana , try the open in 2016 . You might just qualify . Would be great to see you head to head with other female CF athletes. Not saying you shouldn't rob but let Dana try first eh 😜👊

Obviously you guys are super strong, however technique is basically non existent. You can really hurt your wrists and shoulders with how you're cleaning the bar and you aren't jerking the bar over head, you're doing a strict press. When the bar is going overhead, it literally should go overhead not in front of your forehead. When your doing a clean, elbows should go foward not beneath the bar, that way it can rack on your clavicle and shoulders and it will lessen the strain on your wrists and reduce the risk of getting hurt. I know this is internet coaching and all of that other good stuff, but to be honest most of us want you to succeed. You guys for sure have strength and stamina, learning proper form will make you more efficient therefore faster. I highly suggest either finding a crossfit gym that has great olympic weightlifting coaches or simply find and olympic weightlifting coach, that way you learn proper form and extremely reduce the risk of injury so other aspects of your careers would not be affected. I hope this helps.

Grace is 30 clean and jerks NOT clean and presses. To do a jerk, you end with your knees bent while you're over the bar. Also, stop with craning your head up like that. That shit is going to hurt your cervical vertebrae X0!!
