This is a GREAT video. I think one problem that arises w/people into fitness is they train hard, and then are really inactive in general because they have to "recover". Sitting is the new smoking. Walking is probably the BEST method for general weight/fat loss because you burn 100-150 cals a mile depending on speed/weight and it curbs hunger.

Cardio aka The ability to lose gains

Really loved this, more exercise doesn't necessarily = more total burned calories for the day. A lot of people have this huge misconception that they burn most of their calories of the day in the gym when really thats not the case at all. Awesome video.

i want to do a little bit of cardio to improve work capacity and stay ripped but im afraid of losing muscle mass, as my main goal is to gain muscle, i plan on doing rope jumping, are there any other better conditioning/cardio exercises that prevents too much muscle loss?

2016 you had great sucess with doing pullups almost every session, and recently you mentioned doing 100 pushups is a good idea for hypertrophy. Do you think this is a good aproach for a early intermediate athlete with some powerbuilding goals, #jackedandtan #vampireaesthetics. And will it interfere with my strenght goals?

ok… that's not the cardio's fault though. if you're goal is to lose weight then it's up to your will power. this study is just following normal people. if you tend to overeat anyway you're likely to overeat after cardio also.

so this is total clickbait to me.

He isn't taking into account that most who would watch this mix cardio with weight training. I'm always hungry from weight training. My 30 minutes/day of cardio, following weights, doesn't increase that appetite.

Ash quigley January 15, 2017 - 4:25 pm

low intense cardio always suppressed my appetite and high intensity just makes binge.

My problem is, that i need to force myself to eat sometimes. I do football as cardio, and after that i feel resistance against food. I burn about 500 plus kcal, long ass cardio with higher intensity. And right now my intake is about 1000 kcal. And I dont know, should I eat, or better nah? Or should I try high GI food? Is that too bad for my muscles?

I am pro cardio, but I find that the best cardio for me is circuit training with cardio intervals in between exercises – a la Jillian Michaels. Works amazingly. I also walk for over an hour every few days.

Omar, several recent studies in the journal of marketing research, shows that foods that are marketed as healthy can cause people to over eat, they think this is healthy, i can eat more of it and be ok, when in reality they're consuming more food than normal and increasing over caloric intake causing weight again. In addition, these "health" food decreased peoples likely hood of exercise, the idea being, i just ate healthy, I don't need to do cardio.

anybody who works out and says they dont care about looks is lying. anybody who works out and doesnt care about their health is a fool. you make your points well, but cardio is WAY more important that lifting. i know a 60 something year old muay thai fighter with 500 + fights. he looks like a thin, scrawny man with nice muscle tone and great posture. he is articulate and full of energy. he runs 10K a day still. i also know a 50 ex something powerlifter. beer gut like crazy and walks with two cane arm-things. sure, these are just single cases, but I know for sure the powerlifter has a busted back and knees because of lifting. not a lifestyle im looking forward to.

Is it that important to do cardio? I always thought I should do it for cardiovascular health and all that but I stopped doing cardio 2 months ago and I gained so much muscle. I'm really happy with the results I'm getting but I wonder if I should do it for the health benefits though. Also, when I'm done with my weightlifting routine my energy level is zero, there's no way I could jump into the treadmill and do anything.

I feel like we are forgetting a big piece, HIIT has physiological response of bypassing some of the insulin, making us storing less fat.
Training for too long however increases the amount of stress hormones which stores more fat and can sometimes increase hunger.
Maybe some people could train less to get more beneficial effect.
I have a hard time with these calories oversimplifications.

I had the brilliant idea to start training for a marathon after I had lost 50+lbs lifting and eating better. Stopped lifting and got so hungry coming back from the runs, that I binged and got fat again…. Worst pitfall was thinking I could 'earn' calories running and eating them back..and then some…

Everyone should do cardio alone for health reasons as you said in the beginning of the video: cardio is important for your health, it will increase your longevity, you'll have a better life overall …. who doesn't want that? Everyone should want that. That's sad if you don't want that.
Besides that cardio is one of the most important factors in losing weight.

Moderate intensity steady state cardio burns a heck of a lot more calories than walking and just because your neat goes down a little if you do your cardio early in the morning and afterwards don't fidget quite as much as you normaly would doesn't mean that it comes crashing and you'll end up in a calorie surplus …. that is just bullshit.

You want to be healthy and lean and want to stay lean without suffering to much by going crazy low with your calories and starving: then do your fricking cardio.
At the beginning you won't burn too much calories because you are out of shape and you listened to omarlsuf and walked instead of doing your freaking cardio.
But if you keep going, you do it daily and you choose your cardio well (a form that burns a lot of calories aka not treadmill but elliptical for instance) you'll burn way more calories with even less effort than you did when you first started doing cardio.

I don't get why almost all freaking fitness channels want to promote walking or some other bullshit thing instead of cardio.
Have we really become that lazy that we can't go for a run, ride our bike or do some other form of cardio anymore?

I mean it should be obvious that cardio is the way to go if we want to get ripped, shripped, shredded.
My first thought when seeing a fit, lean body is not: "oh wow, he/she is so fit he/she probably goes for a walk regularly" but rather: "oh wow, he/she is so fit he/she probably does cardio everyday year round (and eats properly)".

Isn't that you first thought as well?
