Great video matt! 👍🏻
Question: is there a benefit to deadlifting sumo or is it just down to personal preference on what u find more of a comfortable stance?

Matt, have you considered doing ''powerbuilding'' ? Doing the big 3 lifts with high(er) intensity and all the other exercises in the 8-20 reprange? Cool video dude! Fav. channel

hey, what about strongman or oly lifting? or have you got the 'whatever Larry Wheels does I do" mindset, because I think that's a good mindset to have.

The myth of powerlifting = strength needs to die before more young men wreck their backs for life with hillbilly lifts. Strength is movement specific and nobody is ever "weak for their size" because there is no scientific criteria to determine how much someone should lift while looking like X. Some people have naturally aesthetic bone structure and muscle shape and we associate them with strength while some disgusting fat slob might have good genetics for some types of lifting. Strength is highly movement specific and that's why powerlifters get destroyed by arm wrestlers half their size. I may be exaggerating a bit but the principle is correct. Bodybuilders get to choose which lifts they excell in while powerlifting competitors need to focus on a couple arbitrarily chosen lifts where they use maximum leverage and technique to get green lights and to move the bar as little as is allowed. It's not a competition of who is strongest but who can get the green lights the best. The truest way to test strength would be to plug the athletes into a machine that measured the power of their muscular contractions.

Could you build big arms by only train compound exercises? I the 5×5 programme I follow I mainly do only deadlifts, squats, benchpress, shoulder press and some bodyweight exercises like pull ups and push ups

It doesnt but still powerlifting makes you much stronger faster and you get denser muscles. Plus training for strenght makes you perfect your form and makes it easier for guys to train for hypertrophy later on easily

People are overcomplicating things. You get big doing low reps of heavy weights on compound exercises and then with isolation exercises you do higher reps. Arnold, Franco and Ronnie did powerlifting first; Dorian Yates and Jay Cutler squat and deadlift over 600lbs and bench in the 400s. I don't really care about bodybuilding- I'm just interested in looking better and being able to fight (Lesnar, Overeem, Ngannou, etc. are jacked)

I've read numerous places that leg ext and ham curls are a waste of time and that isolate work out increase the risk of injury.

Dont makes you weak, focus is just not perse on maximal strength. So you will definately be stronger then the normal joe but not then a powerlifter

Reply
Gold Animal May 21, 2020 - 6:35 am

I would say only the lack of fighting ability makes you weak

Reply
sf2explus March 20, 2021 - 4:16 pm

most people want to body build but somehow in the gym they are strength training or power lifting.
u always see it in the gym. you ask them what their goal is they say to get bigger and in better shape. u see them 6 months later they almost look the same. u see the guy using the lighter dumbell with more control as long as his eating good calories that matter he will build not only size but also shape. and will slowly get stronger as muscle grows SURPRISE so does strength.
