I've been alternating 7×3 and 5×5 for the last couple of months and my strength has been increasing substantially. i started doing 5×5 with 155 on flat bench about 2 or 3 months ago, and can now do 175. and i've been doing 7×3 with 185 for the past month and it has gotten easier each week. Yes im a beginner. I've been weight training for about a year.

Omar, a question for Jeremy and yourself, often for beginners the program suggested is often 5×5 style training or 5/3/1 occasionally. But at what point do you think one should start training with deloads and stuff like that x10 reps?

What are your thoughts on locking out? I've always locked out on every rep, but I suppose that can put quite a bit of stress on your joints.

To each their own, but at the world's preeminent powerlifting gym (Westside), the lifters perform a 1RM variation once weekly for (1) bench and (2) either squat or deadlift. 20% of the total volume is used for the classical lifts and 80% for accessory lifts. The progressive-overload method (adding volume to the main lifts over the course of a cycle) is generally regarded as antiquated, even though some people indeed benefit from it. On the plus side, it's more likely better for injury avoidance since you're not red-lining your body twice per week.

Any Massthetics fans here? Wondering about if Garrett's programming where he pulls over 90% continuously until he peaks would actually work, even for a beginner.

not even a real 405 bench press, bouncing it off his chest isnt a rep , and not holding at the bottom for a second, your scapula is like a spring when he brings is down and bounces of his chest hs scapula will bend back and just like a rubber band snap back helping him push up the weight

This is great advice. You don't hear it often because it's hard to sell and doesn't sound exciting.

I thought the big mistake was going to be the form. Bouncing off the chest and shit.

This is obviously true for elite lifters like Jeremy, however novices and intermediates can get away with training at high intensity frequently. I would even argue it is beneficial for them to do so.

I dont get it, is he really saying that after 12 weeks hes doing 24 more set PER WORKOUT? Like he's doing 27 sets of bench at 70-80% on the 12th week? That sounds ridiculous

Great vid. Been doin this for a little while now with steady progress on all my lifts, even at 42 years old. Extremely contrary to popular belief and extremely effective.

I feel like a lot of beginners should do high frequency high volume program with light weight to ingrain the movements in the nervous system without risk of faults, i feel like a lot of western programming fails to really adapt the nervous system and motor patterns for the lifts
