Great video nick. I believe the 90's was the best era . Why ? Because you had a top 10 line up that any one of the them would be mr Olympian today . You had the very biggest physiques without the bubble gut and you had the very best smaller physiques competing just as good . Guys like shawn ray competing against Dorian Yates and either one could have been mr olympia . Today theres too much attention put on the bigger guys and that's why the classic physique came into the picture .
The Ronnie Coleman era was pretty damn crazy
I have been looking at the Olympia since Scott 1965. Now a days, all that muscle and all that stands out to me is that all I see are guts. Being big and having a gut does not impress me at all. They are just a bunch big fat guys.

Nick, My first and most most exciting memories are from 77 to 83. At around 12 years old I recall watching Frank Zane on broadcast television. Competition was fierce. Arnold made his comeback, albeit controversial. Still there would be no clear favorite. In 1984, I believe they kind of threw out the golden ratio of bodybuilding. Thanks for the great content.
would love to see a new contender come in and win by aesthetics alone like Frank Zane. Shawn Rhoden's physique just looks to me like Phil Heath's with tighter abs. We need someone to break the mold the way Frank did, just my opinion

I agree that Shawn is not a lock for the Olympia victory every year. If he comes in like last year, polished and shredded, he is like a small but perfect diamond and he will win. The problem is he has weaknesses that will become evident if he is not spot on. His arms and back are underwhelming so if he is slightly off he is vulnerable. Phil on the other hand has no weaknesses other than the midsection so he probably will retake the Olympia and set the record for most wins if he fixes that issue.

Are we pretending now that the 1980 Olympia was legit? C'mon, that was decided long before anyone got on stage, as was Columbo winning in 81. I love Arnold and he's undoubtedly the biggest star in the history of bodybuilding, but I believe his Olympiarun was worked as Hulk Hogan's run in the 80's was. Basically as long as tickets are selling, keep it going. As for Curry, he looks great. I thought Bonac had him beat at the Arnold this year based on density and lower body development, but Curry is improving fast !!!
