For all of you questioning this training template he is using look up John Broz (or Cory Gregory) Squat Everyday program. Educate yourselves & don't knock it until you learn and try it. Its not as much about building muscle as it is about overall strength and movement practice. Its not revolutionary or a new trend (this has been done LONG before we were born).

is this program making you weaker mike? you could do way more reps with 3 plates! So I guess it is working and becoming harder and harder… but do you feel the result yet?

Basketball shoes are meant to absorb contact with the ground / provide cushion and comfort while running up and down a court – pretty sure not your best bet to provide force through the ground. As far as I know it's common knowledge to squat in stiff soles, not tennis / basketball shoes meant for running.
