Matt of course sumo is going to allow you to lift more weight there is no ROM 😂

Sumo is very technical, won't be surprised if common people don't get sumo but they get conventional
How about you do both and see what your PB is rather than getting these non lifters to do it

I’ve been doing both styles and personally sumo is genuinely harder than a conventional deadlift
Never done sumo and I dont think I ever will but my conventional best was 140kg for 3 reps with straps and a belt. I don't know what my 1rm would be as I've only maxed my bench
There’s a reason conventional is the recognised one in the deadlift record and why the strongest men Eddie hall etc pulled it. Sumo, is good for the posterior chain and strengthening the hamstrings and glutes/can benefit the taller guy, but it’s not the same. Conventional is significantly harder when you understand the mechanics of the lift. However sumo, is harder to adjust to at first.
Look at the technique of the second guy pull sumo! -_- If he do it right it will for sure lift more with sumo! Stupid comparison! All you need is you to admit to yourself that sumo is for pu**ies!

It's so hard to tell because if you've been doing one way for a long time the other way feels strange anyway, I can pull 150kg conventional but only 90kg sumo because I'm not used to it 😅

To anyone who keeps telling themself that sumo isn't easier than conventional deadlifting => stop lying to yourself 💯
Easier doesn't mean its better. Sumo has its place as it is a safe option for bad backs, but it's an easier movement to do for a reason. Far less range of motion and much less muscular recruitment than conventional. If you want bigger posterior muscles, sumo is cheating you. Rather that is cheating or not, is up to the individual and his or her goals.
Love the fact you took it to a everyday gym and tried this with everyday people. Ultimately I guess it’s what works best for the individual. However you have proven that sumo is at first hardest. 👍. Love the ‘little rats’ put down 😂
I'm confused… didn't you basically just prove that Sumo is easier, so by that conclusion alone, Sumo is cheating?

I keep off deadlifting after popping my back a few years ago!
I find that matts sumo stance is much less aggressive than other people I see out there. his legs are not nearly as spread out as others and they bend at a more 90 degree angle. If more people sumo deadlifted as Matt does, less people would consider it cheating in my opinion.
I have no idea if it's cheating or harder, I consider them different since they are. Sumo, to me, activates legs more whereas conventional is more back. I could be wrong; I am not an expert. My personal best is 120kg conventional; I've never tried sumo. Bear in mind that I achieved the PB after having trained purely with kettlebells back in the day and the highest load was 2x40kg at the gym. With kettlebells after some load, it could be considered sumo due to the size of the bell to be fair, but I've always felt my hamstrings exhausted after training. Frankly speaking, if the technique is learnt and man always locks up his waist once the bar is lifted and allows their body to recover deadlift is an incredible exercise for the entire body and you get a stronger core. P.S. keep the ego lifting locked in the deepest vaults.

I matched my conventional PB when I tried sumo but it felt insanely uncomfortable
sumo is harder if you randomly alternate if u trained sumo and conventional the same u would be able to pull more sumo

No sumo is not harder I disagree completely. They are different forms of deadlifting. Not one or the other is harder. It's down to form, technique and what you have learnt. Matt you went in with a biased view that you wanted sumo to be harder. More people do conventional deadlifting away, so this was always going to be the outcome.
