Believing that I could change from my gimpy, thin framed self (I was literally after this result) to Kyriakos Grizzly destroyed my will to live in no hyperbolic terms. The realization that I don’t actually have control and that we all different limits that we can’t break from kind of killed any optimism I ever had. Seeing dudes who don’t even train be wider than me by virtue of birth everyday makes me think, maybe I should just do all the drugs and die at 35 because I’m so goddamn uncomfortable in my own skin now that I don’t see how I can live this way forever.

So yeah, I’d say the “fitness industry” as shorthand for the endeavor of pursuing a physical standard other or higher than what you have, does in fact have a very deleterious effect upon your mental health.

Also “Ascetic not aesthetic” should be a Raskol shirt, Eric really nailed it with that one.

Are we only talking about appearances? I love the fact that we grow up understanding that we are better than average if we do anything in any type of active lifestyle, but as living with chronic pain, I wake up every morning hating my body and it's tough to overcome that. It carries over to the appearance. That being said, the industry is fucked

I thought just going for performance would help(mostly lift to hit harder for Muay Thai/Dutchkickboxing) but the days that I do not hit as hard are borderline unbearable. Mostly work stuff my coach says, what Phil Daru posts, oly lifting, etc. and I feel them working, but on those bad days it is like I might as well just not hit the bag, pads, spar, w/e that day and it sucks. Been working on balance and self love. Should add on that I think lifting does improve striking, not one for the antiquated," do not lift if you are a striker" mentality.

If you wan't to start in fitness there are few steps to do:
1.Start 5×5;just follow the program
2.Delete social media;like Instagram and youtube
3.just it whatever you like and just try to be consistent

Worshipping e-celebrities and falling for scams isn't fitness. If you got mindfucked by sociopathic ''influencers'' the problem is deeper than the fitness industry. You would have been bent over and fucked no matter what interest you chose. If your big interest was knitting you would be in a downward spiral getting scammed thinking your needles and threads are never good enough and you need supplements to get the best results.
This is your mentality. You are easily exploited.
99% of what you need to know to get fit can be summarized in a few minutes and is easily accessible for free. You can access it without looking at someone on steroids who will sell you the idea that you need to look like a genuine freak. No one stops you from just doing your own thing and trying to be as fit and healthy as you can.
This applies to anything. Even something as dumb as video games has this problem. You can just play what you want and have fun, or you can be exploited like an idiot and fall into traps like trying to become a competitive gamer, getting addicted to your ranking, buying gamegrub(tm), gamer keyboard(tm), gamer energy drink(tm).
The majority of people do not fall for it bad enough that it negatively impacts them and if you fell for it you are one of the so called whales that these industries milk and target.

Lift long enough naturally and you’ll eventually get over it. Once you see for yourself what the limitations really are and how they’re completely out of your control. You can just accept that you get what you get and focus on other things in life while enjoying the hobby for all its benefits:

A very few fitness influencers started uploading videos to help others and even after years have passed, they are still doing the same. Omar is one of these few people.

On the contrary, we have fitness youtubers whose only intention was to help others without worrying much about monetary gain but now, they have gone to the dark side and now their videos are basically ads within a few seconds of generic advices here and there.

Omar is one of the realest out there anf I wish he could upload more like he used to.

Whether you lift weights or not you need to have a life

Get a life first

Make lifting a "part" of that life

I hate this new psychology culture within fitness. Just know that yes you always look like shit and you need to eat more food and train like a madman or you’re a failure. That’s what it’s all about. Mental health is gay

The problem is that physical strength and appearance is only one aspect of good overall wellness. Mind, Body and Spirit, or better yet, Spirit, Mind then Body.

Michael Sigmond January 21, 2023 - 2:58 pm

Awesome Omar!
My training is all based on mental health (ptsd) and there is a spill over effect from physical strength to mental.
Also posture improvement and flexibility will make you attitude better and make you better at handling things, that are purely mental.
I really love the way I look when I am not considering suicide.
Keep it up bro!
And thank you for high quality usefull advice. You do make a difference.

Great video but one thing I don’t like about videos like this is why always speak about the problem as if everyone is the same and we’re all robots so if you bodybuild then you’ll inevitably become unsatisfied and insecure lol no.. it’s just bodybuilding attracts insecure people who will never be happy. I’m out here having fun with it.. only thing that kisses me off is I don’t get enough social media attention for my content compared to other mediocre people lol

Fitness is like beating a video game; you beat it or achieve your "favourite armour" or favourite character, whatever… But, after you want more, and then the game becomes stagnant. In fitness, we always want more muscle.

On top of all of this, we're doomed because of age. We'll get older and maintaining muscle and leanness will get more difficult. I think it's important to like or look forward to things other than our physiques. A great career, great friends and family, healthy relationships are things that can make us be not so obsessed with how we look.

So glad I started lifting when I was 15 in 1982. Back then it was easy. Eat bit to get big. Lift big to get big. Get sleep. Six meals a day. Almost zero emphasis on being lean and having abs unless you were competing. If you just lifted at all, you were automatically one of the bigger guys at school. So I was already a mature adult with decades of fitness before the internet and social media came along. People starting out now better have their head on straight first before working out to avoid eating disorders and body dysmorphia.

Me, one year into my fitness journey: "If I could just grow my muscles to the size they get when I have a big pump and then maintain that 24/7, I'll be completely satisfied."

Me, years later: "If I could just grow my muscles to the size they get when I have a big pump and then maintain that 24/7, I'll be completely satisfied."

It doesn't matter that I've gotten bigger, it's that I could (theoretically) continue getting bigger and bigger. Where's the off-ramp? LMAO

Chase is better than the catch, it's where dopamine is released. To be happy you have to keep changing the finishing line. Alcoholics are happiest getting the grog, not drinking it, gamblers are happiest chasing the win, not winning, bodybuilders are happiest making gains, not being in competition shape. Newbie gains are the best, guess like heroin is best at first, then you are chasing the dragon afterwards. Probably try a new drug like running 10km without puffing, then get back into lifting for those newbie gains

At 6'3" I went from 135->165->185->200->216 then back to 190 and I feel this big time. It's hard to separate measurable progress from the bad feeling while looking in the mirror.

It also has very much to do with outside acknowledgment. It seems no one gives a fuck how fit you are. Some people may look at you a little longer, and yeah it's a good trait in searching for a partner, but especially for men, it doesn't seem to yield any obvious response from the outside world. And yes, that is bullshit, so is life.

Unless you're actually a really hot female you won't get much attention or credit for your insanely amazing achievements in fitness. Probably why so many dudes are becoming girls these days lol.

PS You're one of the only good fitness content creators left Omar. Keep it going!
