Its pretty bad these days when people talk about Arnold as practically being the poster child for aesthetics and a classic physique.

Lou had better calves anyway. It's easy to agree with the judgementwhen that is done. But on my opinion, Lou looked better than Arnold : waist thinner, larger lats and perfect calves.

it's hard to say but pictures it would be nice to have a timing machine and then have them on stage at the best and then do it like that cuz you know one picture being black and white and yellow picture being in car and then one picture he's not even on stage and lose on stage you know

Both men could carry a lot of muscle but the body structure of Lou Ferrigno held him back. Regardless of each man's dosages which is unknown, the end result was Lou was too thick in the hips and waist, and too thin in the arms and legs when compared to Arnold

I think you are right. Even in his best condition, Lou would never beat Arnold.

I read up on both Arnold and Lou, some people think they used steroids for that physique but that's not entirely accurate and also it's not true, because they never use them, I'll tell you how they got bigger back in the 70's, Arnold started training and lifting weights at 15 which it was back in 1962 and 13 years later in 1975 he got much bigger by lifting heavier and stronger, as for Lou he did the same thing training he did that at age 13 that's in 1964 and he got much bigger, stronger and more mass 17 years later which it was 1992 so right off the bat, they never used steroids

Had Arnold faced Lou when Lou had matured? Lou would have stomped Arnold’s ass. Lou was twice the mass as Arnold in his 30’s.

Arnold will always be king of Body Building. We could all say if Arnold didn't leave, he'd have had 10 Mr. Olympia wins. There was just no competition for Arnold because no one was on Arnolds level. Wish Nick would bring that up more when talking about Arnolds past. But i think for comparing Arnold to todays body builders its best if Arnold was at his biggest of 250lbs. Which isn't too far off than say a modern body builder at 270 to 280. It is also hard to compare Arnold because in the 70s did they even tan? They may have but its nowhere near how tan today's body builder get themselves, which helps in showing off their physiques.

Lou is incredible, is a monster, but Arnold has better proportions on those photos. Quite close each other, but Arnold is perfect.

Lou could have taken Arnold down in 70's if he had someone to support and train him like Shawn was trained this year.

I think you have a very good trained eye, better than mine by far. I really appreciate your commentary, you help me look at things I likely would have missed. I have to say Arnold came across as a rather unlikeable guy in "Pumping Iron" and it was very easy to root for Lou. And you had to feel for Lou training essentially in what looked like a dark dungeon while Arnold was training in well lit Gold's Gym, with world class bodybuilders. And Lou sounded like he was being tortured while working out, no joy in it at all. The friend who got me interested in bodybuilding thought Arnold was a real a–hole after watch "Pumping Iron" and thought Lou was better because he was bigger. But I agree with you, Arnold was better. Not a particularly nice guy, but a great bodybuilder. Certainly a winner.

Arnold is king but in his last two years Lou was just up and coming so he wasn't in his league yet. I think Lou in the 80's looked incredible. He would have won an Olympia several times had he not retired. All in all Arnold is the best but Lou was great enough to be on stage with him, a rival and a legend in bodybuilding.
