In 1976 Arnold, Frank Zane, and Ed Corney were a part of a very unique museum exhibition.

Ahhhh the good old days…..sigh
Can you imagine the bubble guts rotating around?
Nick, can u make a video about "could Jesse Ventura have been a bodybuilder?"?
Guys today could never pull this off…I take that back, Cedric McMillan is the only one that could pull this off because he knows how to pose…and hold it!
V. Interesting, kai greene definitely in this category, others could definitely rise up to the challenge, I wish someone would do it!
its such a shame that what modern bodybuilding has become…
Would have been great in the 90s to have Shawn Ray, Kevin Levrone, and Flex Wheeler do an event like this!
Kai does have the artistic posing but he doesn't have the artistic physique
Could Zack Ryder be a bodybuilder?
This all seems homoerotic and weird tbh
Wow.. Nick awesome 8information
I wish there were actually events like this today, physically seeing the hard work and dedication that a person has put in to achieve such a physique, even if the athlete is enhanced, would be nice to admire in person. It would be great motivation I think even for the curious general public to see what the human body is capable of looking like when we are at our peak, it would certainly motivate the hell out of me, even as a natural lifter. That being said, I feel like a big issue today about bodybuilding not being as aesthetic, besides being oversized, is that bodybuilders seem waaaaaaay more lean today than back in the day. I definitely appreciate striations and vascularity, however when you look at the older pictures and videos compared to today's athletes, their body fat doesn't seem to be nearly as low. I feel like it almost appears too unhealthy to be as lean as some competitors are today, which throws off the balance of what it means to be aesthetic. It's almost as if subconsciously we can see that being lower than I'd say around 8% body fat that it becomes too unhealthy if you were to be a natural athlete, as hormone production, especially testosterone becomes an issue. If bodybuilders today would compete around 8-10% bf I think the general public would be much more interested. That's just some of my random thoughts anyways, great vid!
if they introduce the vacuum in todays open mr olympia, things would change alot. 🙂 Imagine being a bodybuilder in that time, so cool.
Arnold looked very natty at this show.
Bodybuilding is an art, not a sport.
Boy did you dig deep for this one! I remember some mention of this event during that time period, never realized it's full history !
1:03 wow!! most amazing thing I've seen!! Ed Corney was incredible. One of the best posers of all time if not the best.
This was a cool video for bb history. Great job
it was atthe end of pumping iron!
perfect. they are a beacon for us today. flawless.
Pretty wild how Arnold looks out of shape at the museum yet looks great.
When steroids come into play, everyone is genetically gifted.
You're a great story teller, very interesting!
the art of the human body has little to nothing to do with how it looks. the art of the human body is athletic endeavor; running, jumping, swimming, throwing, gymnastics, long distance running and sprinting, even weightlifting. bodybuilding relies mainly on destroying the metabolism (lets face it, not many bodybuilders have the luxury of eating right year round so they have to diet) while also destroying normal human mobility. so youre 30 with a shitty metabolism, sciatica and rotator cuff surgery in the near future but jacked? fucking crazy. apex of the human body and shit, lol
although the same can be said for powerlifting: i cant walk up a full flight of stairs without resting but i can pinch into a clown suit (or not) and get into grotesque position to move a barbell by brute force a few inches, but i cant touch my toes and i have 3 ruptured discs, two acl surgeries and tingling in my arms constantly.
sure. art. sems legit
Kai double bubble gut Green !!!
Nick you were joking right…!!
😜
Ulisses jr. can pull this of
Don't believe either of the three were in top shape but it didn't matter because general public then not sophisticated enough "lookers" to notice. But the success of the event was a harbinger for good things to come. Thanks for posting.
Damn it does look like an art exhibition !
So today it would be called: Boubblegut as Art
Awesome. Guys just don’t pose like this anymore. Shawn Ray has mentioned in his oldschool videos from the 90s that when he picked music for a routine it was an expression of art and a way to put his art on display. The guys of today and the last 10-15 yrs have made Bodybuilding a freak show. The millennium changed the sport a lot.
I think today so many more people do bodybuilding that the commitment and uniqueness of what these classic era guys achieved is not so rare anymore – I think such an exhibition would be met with appreciation but perhaps not the same level of awe.
That’s $83,721.00 in admission fees. And that is going off a 0.0043in thickness per bill.
Nick you have to do a video about Michelangelo and his art. Very relevant to bodybuilding
WHEN, body building was an art, the ideals were different. I don't see the bubble gut mass packers even looking at this without laughing smugly…
I am a artist..pencil drawing is my thing…the body when in shape is the most beautiful thing on earth…the 1970's is such a golden time piece on earth…for it was the era of bodybuilding finest…the body in a motionless flex position is such a masterpiece…the bodybuilders from the 1940's to the 1980's look like they were the decendents from the great Hercules himself…..truly amazing
i was there feb 25 1961,,it was my birthday,,,,uncle took me there,,i thought ed corney was italian,,,,,hes hawaiian
This will be the first time I ever disagree with Nick's strength and power. Kai Greene could never pull off those classic poses. He has a weird alien turtle shell gut that juts out from his hips on both sides. Ask him to pull up a vacuum pose. He can't. Gh gut.
