Definition of "sport." : "an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment." Bodybuilding is a pageant, not a sport. There is no skill component in standing on a stage flexing your muscles. Subjectivity is not the issue. Lots of Olympia sports have subjective judging. It's the lack of a skill component that disqualifies Bodybuilding.

I have always felt the same way, but food for thought, why is strong man not an olympic sport? It would meet every criteria required

Bodybuilding is not a sport, it is a lifestyle and you are judged on a contest like these miss World shows.

The bodybuilding is the fundamental sport for all the sports but the bodybuilding contest is not a sports contest

every competitor at the Olympics is on drugs, nobody would even watch the Olympics if they where natural as it would be very boring

If people really think Olympic sports are clean they're in a dream 🌎 there are too many things to take that's super hard to find in your body hello lance Armstrong😂

As much as I respect the effort and determination it takes to be a pro bodybuilder, I think even you have mentioned that this is more of a pageant than a sport. We're not judging someone's performance or Their effort. With bodybuilding you're strictly judging based on the body they built, how that body looks. And I don't think that fits in with the Olympics.

No. Even with natural physiques.. someone could possibly cheat by using small doses. Keep it separate. ✅🙂

No, there’s no physical athletic competition

Reply

It's not a sport. It's a competition to see who can take the most drugs.

Reply
Mikol December 18, 2018 - 2:02 am

Really?

Bodybuilding is the pinnacle sport of performance-enhancing drugs. Olympians from other sports would be jealous of bodybuilders ingesting all these chemicals that's banned for them.

Bodybuilding is not a sport. It is a chemical lab for freaks.

Keeping in mind the motto of the Olympics: Faster, Higher, Stronger. Faster is…how fast you can grow muscles with chemicals. Higher is…how high can you get the dosages of chemicals to build your muscles. Stronger is…how strong your liver and kidneys can tolerate the high dosage of chemicals to grow muscles.

People, get real.

While bodybuilding can be regulated to be as natural as it can be, there's absolutely no legitimate reason or purpose you can include bodybuilding in the Olympics.

No. Totally stupid to try to use some sociology definition. Instead you tell me what sport in the olympics now is most like body building and we will compare from that.

I think for something to be a sport in the Olympics the first qualification should be that it's an actual sport. Bodybuilding is definitely not a sport.

Even if drugs wasn't an issue, as well as the subjective judging aspect… The argument around the 10:25 mark is the main reason… Judging is based on how they look not how they perform.

not a sport, but also not a "beauty" pageant. bodybuilders are super disciplined and should be in the olympics! i love ur vids bro very inspiring

hell no…they are not athletes.i mean some might have athletic backgrounds but as a whole….. im a bodybuilder and i played college football, as well as boxed and do some mma and no disrespect ment but at my gym there are guys working out in the weight room who cant walk in a straight line. they look pretty good but not one drop of athletic ability in their bodies.just because you lift weights does in no way give you talent or make you a world class athlete and since were talking about the olympics thats what were comparing to…. there is no comparison to be made.. the olympics are for the best athletes on earth….sorry but no way bodybuilding should even get a mention ……just saying

Cleon Pierre January 11, 2019 - 6:45 am

The olympics and ALL other sports are full of drugs 🙄😒. I'll start and end my argument there. The only difference is that bodybuilders have been a scapegoat for drug use for years that's the problem. So people naive like you believe that it's the only sport with drug use.

Exactly natural bodybuilding. Bodybuilding is already in every continental multi-sporting event and in 2019 will be part of the Panamerican Games in Lima Peru.

I will compete in the Panamerican Games in August 2019 for Nicaragua. I qualified through winning the Panamerican Championship in 2018 and all winners athletes were tested by wada (all results were negative). I have competed for over 10 years, I am a life time natural bodybuilder, I was a WNBF pro and have won the IFBB Elite pro card in classic bodybuilding, but stayed amateur. There are some amazing natural bodybuilders. Hopefully it will get to the Olympics someday. It will help to further clean up the sport too.

Great channel man. Big fan.

It's not an athletic sport at all. We all know this. It's an art form, transformation of the body. But nobody is directly competing in a display of athletic skill in a competition.

The subjective judging does it for me (and yes there are subjectively judged olympic sports, I don't like them either). How many Olympia decisions are considered controversial? There's your answer why not.

More importantly, why does it need to be? It not being a sport or not being in the Olympics does not devalue it.

Figure skating, diving gymnastics are not completely subjective. The scoring is based on difficulty and skill level of moves, therefore a performance is judged better or not. However there is a subjective aspect as there is an artistic and emotive element to a good performance. Some argue that changes in gymnastics and skating score systems mean too much weighting to difficulty of moves, meaning you don't get artistic beautiful routines very often now, just high skills power moves not flowing together beautifully. So won't see another Nadia Comenec or a Bolero skating performance. So these disciplines ideally balance art with sport

No way its not a sport, does not require any skill to become a body builder, the physical exertion and discipline is part of becoming a body builder, but competition side of it is more like a beauty pageant, there is no entertainment value or skill involved the complete opposite of the definition of a sport.

I could see it however as, an best athletic physique. And having each athlete in any event being able to attend, overall Mr Olympia overall best athletic build. Which is exactly what bodybuilding used to be during the beginning now these oversized gorellas with there disgusting bellies over take the shows…. There's actually lots of power lifters who are stronger than the Strongest strong man and look massively better and bigger than these pregnant freaks. Look at Dmitry Klokov
