The ANIMAL crew had a benching contest at the 2010 Olympia. Guys were to bench their body weight and Girls had to bench HALF their body weight for a total of reps. So I went over to sign up, but there was NO WAY I was only doing half my body weight! That would be 7.5 lbs on each side…Really? I would be there ALL day and I had to be back at the Isolator booth!! So I did 100% body weight for a mediocre 25 reps. Not too happy with my amount of reps. 25 is a little weak! Demoing at the isolator booth all day kicked my ass, but I figured I would throw it up anyway. I don’t think any other girl’s did full body weight, so that’s a no contest, and I’m pretty sure I beat most of the guys

@tracysman2328 I normally stop an inch above my chest, any lower and i feel more stress on my front delts. Plus most people just use that as an excuse to bounce the weight off their chest! lol

@DanaLinnBailey I just got back from the doctor about half hour ago. He was telling me that I have damaged my AC joint from doing bench press all the way down. When your upper arm travels any farther back than parallel with your torso, it puts too much strain on the joint. As a powerlifter, I am required to touch. There is a reason why bodybuilders and fitness competitors don't go all the way down. 1) The extra inch doesn't work the muscle any better (2) It does more harm than good.
@DanaLinnBailey That is correct. THe chest muscle is fully stretched. There is a point where you can't go any lower….unless you let your triceps stretch more in which the bar would then touch your chest. Its sort of like if you do a proper lat pulldown/pull up, you can't touch the bar to your chest in the fully contracted position. If you touch your chest with the bar, you are actually flexing your arms. Same with Barbell rows, if the bar hits the stomach, chances are you're flexing your arms
@Punchy317 Yeah dude, too many people in the gym are not "learnin their fully contracted" muscle…and how it feels. I hope you recover man.

@tracysman2328 I'm pretty sure the big muscle guys around could see that she was completeing a full rep or it wouldn't have been counted.
