LOVED THIS! That point about maintaining muscle and embedding it was a thing I didn't do my first two years of lifting and I lost so much muscle everytime I cut down. I did the same as everybody else; bulked for 6 months, cut down for 3 months and maintained low body fat for 3 months over the summer. That's literally half my lifting career not making any progress.

Now I'm on a two year lean bulk and I'm looking bigger and better than ever! Thanks for all your solid advice, Lex.

Helped me improve my attitude. I just realised I've been working out on and off for 7 years and I've gotten nowhere. I need to be more consistent…. And stop worrying about getting fat every time I make progress. This time I'll bulk for 6 months straight.

I have watched so many fitness experts talk about fitness, you have to be the most humble and most realistic out of all of them. The way you talk versus the other buff dudes is so different. You have an elegance within you. For example, unlike most of the other buff dudes, you did not drop the F bomb even once. I am not just happy about the info you provided here, but I am impressed with the humility you maintain throughout. There aren't many like you these days Lex. You have a new subscriber, and I'm not going to look anywhere else. Keep up the original British class. Cheers from India.

i just discoverd your channel and you got me motivated again to think about macros. i work out 3-4 times a week (HIT) but i hate to calculate. So i just stick to healthy food without counting macros and i found out, i am in a huge deficit. like 1000cal . but since i feel good, i was just thinking: well, my body doesnt want the gains, which sucks but at least,i work out and stay healthy. you changed my mindset.thank you, greetings from austria

you can lose fat and gain muscle, if you're a beginner and whenever I start to cut I gain some muscle, but once I get into a deep cut I start to stall strength wise

Hi Lex! Quick question. I have an omron weight that measures Body fat and Muscle %. I used to measure once a week (just as I wake up on saturday), however I have recently heared that averages should be used. So, ¿how often should I measure? and ¿how many measures should I take in count for the average? Cheers from Mexico!

Great vid. At what body fat percentages would you recommend cutting and bulking? Also, what do you recommend as the optimal caloric deficit and surplus for cutting and bulking to minimize muscle loss/fat gain, respectively? Thanks!

late comment but i also am curious about something… what about these USN 12 week body transformations where the people go from slightly podgey or a 'bog standard' body to super shredded, lean and more muscular especially if they are bigger in muscle size.. is that actually possible do you think or do you think there is more going on behind the scenes ? just made me think from your comment on a good bulk isn't possible in 12 weeks. thanks 👌x

When he let go of his bike for a quick second to do hand gestures, I was a bit scared for him lol.

PS could you do a video of how to determine whether one should lose fat or build muscle? Or is that a silly question? 😔

Reply
Paul R March 20, 2017 - 12:34 pm

great video!…maybe you should do a video on fat loss and the effects it's has on the body's natural hormones…e.g. while your losing fat, estrogen begins to lower, putting the body into a more anabolic state…because high estrogen in men impedes the body's ability to build muscle, it also lowers sex drive, mood and makes men feel sluggish…

what if u have a bit high fat percentage, and u go on a caloric deficit? won't the fat compensate for the deficit? hence, burning fat and gaining muscles?
