I brace at the bottom when I'm really focusing on the movement of the deadlift. I brace at the top when I'm going for explosive deadlift

I’ve never been able to brace at the top. Especially when using hook grip or straps.

Also, is it not nearly impossible to top brace if you use wraps? Maybe if you are incredibly fast on the setup or something.

Would you say this is compatible with sumo? It makes sense that it would. Pulling through the floor, rather than just gripping and ripping from a brace at the top

SOMEONE HELP, I can't remember which Omar video it was. There's a video where another lifter shows him a warm up technique for bench where he holds a 5 pound plate behind him. I'm trying to find which video it was.

Hey Omar, I'm a subscriber and I've followed a lot of your advices. I have my 1st meet in 2 months. I've been training 25 years and I used to have a very strong bench In my 30's(455)but injuries forced me to stop flat benching for at least 8 years and managed to build a 370 max on decline but unfortunately decline is not an event obviously lol… been benching flat again since 6 weeks and started back to the bottom and managed to get a 275 pause press. I also do a lot of low bar squats and the last time I've squatted it must of did it(had 405 for an easy triple) and ever since then my teres minor(supra spinatus)as well as my elbow hurts like a mother fucker and my pushing from shoulder and elbow fucks up my pushing. I know I can push the weight and that my body trying to protect me and all but 9 weeks out of a fucking comp??I'm discouraged and it could not of happened on a worst time. I'm using Aleve naproxen for swelling and use the massage chair and set the rollers to hit my teres major and infra. It's a bit better now since I'm using small weight and perform shoulder horn, inner and outer flexions with 5 lbs dumbbells as well as mobility stretching. Do you have any solutions as to help me progress through this shit phase??I'm 47 years old by the way so I realize it may also be age related. And I'm not a clean athlete at this moment. Thanks

I breathe my deepest breath halfway down and then go down still pulling and forcing more air into my belly, then I take my grip (hook grip) get into position and brace and do my pull. If I'm doing reps I brace at all the way at the bottom. I got 600 month ago, got 627 (285kg) today. Strength still shooting up like a rocket. 700lb coming soon!

I'm the same way. I started to use a hook grip the second half of last year as well as I how I approach the bar. Then by using Ed Coan deadlift program I had the biggest jump in strength in my life 395 to 460.

ive been lifting weights for about 14 months now and my current deadlift PR is 507 pounds (230 kg). However my bench is a sad 115 kg, ive trained both with equal rep range equal workload. My back has grown insanely in size aswell as my legs. Even though i do more assistance work for chest, it wont grow a fvking bit and Goes up in size extremely slow. In fact its so bad that from the back i look like someone who lifts for years and from the front you cant even see i lift weights (no joke)

You could say im a non chest responder but does Anyone know how i can fix this

Rumour has it, if you start saying Didlift instead of Deadlift your total will go up by at least tree fiddy.

I am not sure why but it caused me a lot of burping when i tried to brace from the bottom especially when alot of reps are involved

Does anyone else breathe out a little when they reach the lockout of the deadlift or is that bad for your back? I heard its to prevent inguinal hernias. Any thoughts?

Ultimately this is a mental cue to get tight before the lift it is similar to the mental Q of rolling the bar towards you and thinking of pulling back instead of up which will ultimately brace core in the same way George Leeman gives a good tutorial of this with Mark Bell and Silent Mike at super training gym video

i know that many people with olympic dumbells and collars are afraid to do the awesome Dumbell Pullovers , too afraid clamps & plate will come loose and break their teeth or nose , i've been wearing my football helmet for like 5years now whenever i do Dumbell Pullovers or any vertical dumbell overhead , i've already broken 5 of my real teeth ,2 in a fight ,the other 3 during training so im not risking losing a 1000$ worth of 5 fake teeth ;p *just wanted to mention it in case anyone who avoids these exercises is struggling to find a solution

This has been my favorite deadlift video I've seen on this channel so far. I appreciate the how specific this gets (big boy bracing etc.), whereas the more general "how to deadlift" videos might miss. Clears things up a bit for a beginner lifter just tryna get my form right.

On a serious note, will training calves potentially make you stronger and improve your lifts by adding extra force? It's good for other sports, but can it help with deadlifting?

Older video but I'll comment still. This is how I've always setup on DL. I tried the whole set my lats and stick my arms out in front of me thing but it just looks goofy. I always just put my feet into position, bend down and get my hands/hook grip setup, and then straighten my back, drop my hips/lean back, and engage my lats and I'm good to go.
