It's, I assume, because you have more testosterone. You can actually have more muscle mass and not be lean, in fact, if you're in a higher body fat you'll likely just have more muscle mass anyway it's just not noticeable. There's a golden area for body fat which maximizes testosterone, and obviously, not only is testosterone a steroid that increases muscle mass, it also increases performance too, hence the strength increase. I think that, you're wrong giving the example of how a smaller person may be able to deadlift multiple times their bodyweight whereas a heavier person can't because it's actually partly about the levers in the body and also I think there's an upper limit of strength that decreases in potential as people get bigger. I think that, the taller and wider you get you may have things that will line up with that, such as larger muscles, and more testosterone, you'll end up not being able to exert as much power as a smaller person could in comparison to their bodyweight. So while your maximum lifts may be heavier than a smaller persons, you have less control over your own body. It's exactly shown as a person who's 7ft trying to learn to planche and a 4ft person learning to planche, the 4ft person is going to get it within a matter of months, the 7ft person will get it after a minimum of a year training, likely much longer though. I know you're strictly speaking about body fat but I think you gave a bad example, or perhaps bad wording.
Either way, I think too high body fat will end up with wasted energy used on controlling your own bodyweight, which I think is a glaring problem with strongmen, compared to strength athletes, strength athletes tend to be reasonably lean, whereas strongmen are almost always fat and that will only impede their progress.
Why does losing abs help get you to your strongest?
I recently looked at this response that Mark Rippiteo had on his show about physique over training. He talks about the popular trends that are going on in this age with abs and how abs in other times were not seen as amazing, but were seen as a sign of poverty.
Aren't you maximizing muscle mass at a slightly higher bodyfat percentage?
Being 180 lbs at 6'1 inch compared to 180 lbs and 5'10 inch tall makes a WORLD of difference as well. This is what I missed in the video Omar, the weight to lenght ratio.
Mass moves mass.
Abs.mehh…..last time i checked i was belly mode .lol
and then you throw in the chinese olympic weightlifting team and everything omar just said becomes invalid.. ( if we thought that they where clean… which is just pathetic to think)
Once I started eating more and focusing on gaining size, landing around 15% bodyfat, all of my numbers started to blow up. My muscles recover faster, and with more weight, the strength followed. Agree with everything Omar said.

It's actually Wilks, not Wilkes. Just letting you know!
I definitely agree here. The person with more muscle will probably lift more in the same weight class as someone else, but not always the case. But that person who has more muscle would also probably benefit from gaining a few pounds and going up the next weight class in order to get as strong as possible. I guess to each their own.
On a bodybuilding forum I read a comment in which a guy made fun of powerlifting "fatties" and I thought that "fatty" could easily slap you silly and teach you a lesson. In terms of performance that "fatty" would outperform him easily and in a fight he would definitely not survive lol. I find most bodybuilders have too much of a big mouth and arrogant attitude for their own good. We should just be happy and enjoy the sport we do and not be disrespectful to others.
Thought it was obvious you'd be stronger with higher body fat than when shredded .. although I guess it's obvious to me based on what I've observed through experience
Really lean means no boner. Not good.
Omar talking straight from the holy light
How about pound for pound strength? 130 8%BF or 130 16%BF
Omfg!!! I guess common knowledge isn't so common.
If someone deadlifts 700 or more, that's amazing, but if they're fat then it doesn't count.
Message heard now dirty bulking to about tree fiddy. RAW STRENGTH N POWA
We're all just trying to get thicc
A real man weighs at least 200kg
Sooo white duuude!
I think the only way to ever silence all the people who yell ROIDS at youtubers just because they're bigger or stronger than theu are would be to offer to take a drug test any time someone is willing to pay for it. Any time. Then it's absolutely random and no way to prep against it. People will still talk shit, but that would earn the most respect.
"Dont Yolo bulk and get to 35% body fat"
looks down at my coffee cup resting on my fat ass belly
3:48 "not his most aesthetic"? Bro, that's 83kg of pure sex appeal right there.
Damn Omar making me feel less proud about my 3x bw deadlift 🙁
Who the hell thinks the leaner you get the stronger you get… wtf..
Think Charles Poliquin would not agree with you

lost about 20 lbs since Christmas from 195 to 175 and suffered heavy losses to my total so yeah 11.5% body fat and weaker 1RMs was totally worth it
i flashed my chest at you
fuck abs lets get fluffy
12% – 15% is pretty lean anyways.
for some reason, I want to Pet him 🙂
140 pounds?! I'm not in the 3rd grade anymore
Lose the headband. They already shot Cobra Kai.
Strike first, strike hard, no calf training sir!
Lol mentioned Alex and Russel! Whoot whoot!
Bryce Lewis is not the IPF world champion. Omar, don't lie. 😀 He came second last year I think.
People need to relax, when you’re at 10-14%, hell even 15% you can still have abs
All these lean children sacrificing every muscle in their body for a six pack, put them under a squat bar and watch them crumble. Train ab strength, fuck your six pack.
