I am an iranian and I have found new meanings of patriotism not only limited in our borders of country even as political statement,every admonishing thoughts which seek changes are unacceptable! There are some typical intellectuals who claim they are criticising which will cause at least some understanding,I tell you thats a big lie,politicians no matter where,are counting on demagogy and popolism and there are some fake open minded people who only say the thing you wanna hear not the truth.
And the truth is mother country is nothing more than land and air to them,just a lever for taking the power in every aspects.
Our Culture,our though,our existence mean nothing to them unless they could use it as a instrument for reaching their goals.
And when we stand in front of them and say "No" they call it: here we go "treason"
I really hope he doesn’t retire. He is a really good bodybuilder ! Hopefully he is just referring to leaving Iran to live somewhere else, like someone else else said in the comments.

I believe it's due to lack of acknowledgement by the anti- sport regime of Iran. The costs of this sport on a professional level requires financial support ftom the side of the federation and Iran is currently suffering from international sanctions. Apart from that, Hadi knows well he stands a little chance to win the title as long as he's competing under the name of Iran. So cleverly, he accepts Hani's suggestion and prepare the public for a great move to the US.

Yeah, I think too that he might just relocate into Kuwait's oxygen gym crew, and ask for citizenship or something in that line.
unfortunately this is a true story regarding athletes in Iran
But how he can just leave Iran? No1 can just leave Iran except u pay people of government or escape.. If an athlete leaves Iran for contests the government wanna have sort of pledge that the athlete comes back to iran
What do I think? I believe he easily won the 2019 Mr Olympia!! No question about it. He isn't done, Nick. Hadi Choopan's whole life is bodybuilding. He isn't going anywhere!!

Perhaps his religious public sees the sport as "Haram"(Forbidden) and too westernized especially in the midst of a beef with the US…He brings a good physique tho..

I think he is leaving Iran and coming to America or somewhere….I think he is quitting competing for Iran, and this was his good bye to his homeland which he loves but gets no support from…. Love your homeland and the people or not, Iran's Govt is oppressive and its not a great place to live..
In other words… He wasn't making any money and he needed to get a real job
I feel as though hadi situation is based on the tension between iran and America and not getting support to help him compete in America and try to mend relations with America so he doesn't have to deal with the struggles of coming to America
