You can always progress your push-ups and build a stronger chest with reps until failure. You just need the right tools and if you don't have push-up bars you can pretty much use anything. Stack some books if you have to!
I asked my Dad to buy me those push-up bars when I was 8 years old so I could bring them to wrestling practice and use them during our conditioning training. That's probably why my chest is one of my best developed muscles. All that Nuclei Overload Training!

Hmm I used to do these but instead doing to the failure I used to do them by measuring the time it took me to do 100 hundred total reps(regular + on knees) without rest.
Then I kept the log of the rep split between the two & total time it took me to 100. My best was just over five min. With 60 regular & 40 on knees

I do this, but I start with a weight on my back/shoulders, then remove weight, then go to my knees. My max has been increasing nice and steadily! But for me, I got to 1 rep before failure.

Them bars that swivel from Wal mart work great . Push ups alone will give a dude a great build and keep a tight core . It’s really all you need to do amd some light dumbbell work or band work will do the job for a lot of people . Secondly even with bad genetics there’s room for improvement as opposed to be doing nothing push ups and sit ups and pull ups keep a person looking decent .
