I dont understand why people dont like calluses.. It is like the growth of a muscle, it just means that you train on bars! 😀

Personally I occasionally use a toenail clipper to cut off the really lumpy parts. Calluses are not so bad, but they can cause some ugly tears and rips if you do stuff like muscle-ups and clapping pull-ups. Oh well, no pain no gain. Just keep it hygienic, no one likes bloody bars 😉

Why is this even an issue? Having calluses is like wearing a medal.. it shows how devoted you are to training.
And stop being such pussies and complain all the time. Swear to god.. people today are such weaklings.

I've been doing bar work for years and have been wearing finger-less gloves for all of it. I've never really had too many callus problems. I'm used to it now, and when I don't have my gloves on, it just feels weird.

Calluses are natures way to  protect your hands. As a lifelong carpenter my hands were always rough, it comes with the turf.

You should talk more about flappers and splits . How to avoid them and how to heal them . Splits might not be an issue for you bar guys but if you rock climb it's only a matter of time .

I actually get compliments on them, usually at work i'm clean shaved and wearing a suit but as soon as someone shakes my hand i usually hear the guy or girls saying they're rough in a positive tone kinda like a silent way of saying you work with your hands or do calisthenics.

Vaseline and raw shea butter to smooth out . I'm starting out on the bar so I'm not a fan of calluses cuz it hurts and I think I gotta change my grip a bit ..but I will also embrace them as a "growing muscle" . Ty.

I used to have calluses, now my hands look normal but the skin in the area where I had calluses is kind of rough, and that’s cool.

Julius September 3, 2018 - 5:57 pm

Calluses are cool. They are like those chewing gums, which are sour at first, but get sweet with the time.

Same with calluses, it hurts af first, but then you get protected by dead skin.

I walk around barefoot pretty much 24/7 when I can my calluses on my feet are strong but not cracked same for my hands calluses on my feet actually saved my feet from literally exploding from a work injury had around 700-900 pounds roll up my foot but since my feet are calluses the injury only happened on the bottom of my foot right where the joint is where the skin is weakest although getting stitches later at the hospital her needle couldn’t make it through my feet skin on the first try

This is wrong info. Lotion keeps your skin hydrate and flexible and it does not destroy or weaken calluses. If you use lots of hot water and soap you will dry out your calluses and you will end up with peeling and tearing all over your hands and lose layers of the calluses you worked hard to get. File down edges/snags, use lotion daily, minimize the amount of time your hands spend soaking in hot water.
