The basic answer: any physical sport on a competitive level is unhealthy. However it is healthier than most people's lifestyles.
CrossFit is the worst risk to reward sport. I mean you make 0 gains and you look like a fool getting injured doing you swinging pull ups and scared cat deadlifts
It's healthy until a certain point.
Like I love to deadlift. But I'm pretty sure deadlifting over 500lbs (even though I did it myself too) isn't healthy anymore.
I was doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for years and needed several orthopedic surgeries. During rehab/ physical therapy I started doing very controlled targeted movements to strengthen and grow injured parts. My docs recommended putting on more muscle to better protect the joints. I started loading the movements and realized I’m basically doing bodybuilding. Way more healthy that BJJ. Don’t do the extreme dieting though so can’t comment on that.
Balance is the key. We all know what happens to those who push it over the line like Rich Piana etc. And those young fellas that fall for the scam that bodybuilders and huge guys attract all the ladies is a big lie and I feel sorry for them. But to each their own and whatever makes them happy I guess.

Eric looked so much more shredded in the gym footage than on stage and I see the same in professional bodybuilders. Why is this? A tan is supposed to make you look better, do competitions just always have bad lighting?

At 17:08, I disagree with you guys, I'm with the philosopher Sokrates on this one, who said "No citizen has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training… what a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable". Our bodies are machines, why waste the potential? There are a lot of benefits looking like a bodybuilder, I'm not talking about those freaks of bodybuilders in the modern era, I'm talking about being muscular in general. I've been working out for 3 and a half years and I paly soccer twice a week and because i'm muscular, none of my team mates can match my explosivity, agility, strength and speed even though I'm up to 10 years older than most of them. That's BS right there what you just said eric.

When you get into bodybuilding as a fat 14y old kid, and 13years later of working out and doing sports constantly and get really mediocre results, realising that your genetics are not best for being fit and lean, it's hard on your mental health,realysing that you can't be what you want and that you spend so much time trying to get there…. Its hard. My point of view is that people who do bodybuilding is people who have good respond from all that workout and diet and simple getting results that motivates them and keep them doing it.
So this is the 3rd video of yours I've watched… Ever. This guy Eric is very interesting, not because he's "a bodybuilder", but his education surrounding his lifestyle gives him tremendous weight. Also, if Sredded Sports Science give you props, you gotta be doing something right. I look forward to filing through your back stock and what is to come.

Is body building healthy sounds like a question from the fat acceptance movement
Men today bear even greater societal expectations when it comes to looks than women do. Women just have to be thin to be attractive. Men have to be both thin and muscular. Those thin and muscular men reap the benefits of the open, unregulated by shame, sexual market. The 20/80 Pareto principle applies here as well. Which makes the bottom 80% of men who aren't attracting the top 80% of women really frustrated. A bit off topic comment, but not really. Finding a mate is the purpose of why people do most things in life.
This Eric guy looks like a starving child, bodybuilding clearly isn't healthy. I do bodybuilding to the highest level but not dieting hard i just do it for fun

Depends on a lot of factors.
Health can also be a matter of your mental and social wellbeing.
If bodybuilding is the thing that makes you happy and gives you some form of purpose in life then that also plays a factor in your overall health.
From a physical it will never be healthy to be a 300 lbs bodybuilding mass monster… it puts way too much stress on your heart.
It all comes down to priority.

I feel like bodybuilding is putting too much stress on the heart in order for it be healthy?
I went from 165 to 230 in about 3 years. I really started feeling bad after about 220 pounds(reflux issues and sinus problems). Imo the amount of food I had to eat to maintain that weight made it not enjoyable. I started lifting 4 days a week and came down in body weight to 190. Now I feel a lot better and I enjoy lifting again.
Does bodybuilding cause heart issues? Left ventricular hypertrophy for example?
