Squatting, benching and deadlifting are great to increase the squat, bench and deadlift. One muscle we will tend to notice less developed in pure powerlifters is the serratus, vs weightlifters, Strongman competitors and calisthenics athletes.

How can we remedy this?

I love strict ohp.
My goal is to lift my bodyweight overhead and I'm nearly there. Whoop whoop

Does it have to be overhead press? What about bodybuilding hammer press, etc?

I've focused exclusively on my serratus for years. My physique is bizarre.

Spot on! These and pullovers build them so much and personally I see neither done much these days when machines are everywhere

A weak serratus anterior can also cause impingement too

Most people don't know this but front raises also work the serratus. Overhead press can be bad for the shoulders so heed with caution. Pullovers seem to work the serratus as well and you can do press shrugs on a bench where you hold your arms extended like you just finished a bench press but you 'overextend' your arms just a few inches so your shoulders start to lift off the bench.

Anyone interested in the development and moreso the function of this muscle should check out “Melbourne Strength Culture” and their videos on reaching and it’s importance. Crazy

Omar, I do Olympic lifting and a lot of overhead pressing movements. I don’t bench press too often. I have a very pronounced Serratus on the left side. But lacking development on the right. And my right scapular/trapezius/clavicular region is often tight and injury prone. What can I do to better develop the right serratus and fix my problems?

I noticed i feel serratus after lowering weight on dumbell bench. I get lower, push more with lower part of ribcage and control muscles better. So I am practically benching deeper. I love doing push ups on handles, but that rather applies a good stretch to mu pecs than force on sers.

Wanna develop the serratus anterior? Then learn to punch correctly and punch a lot.
