At 29… i appreciate this video. In middle and high school i always felt like i had to starve myself. In my early 20’s i felt like i had the freedom to eat what i want but my bank account and skin hated me for it. The last 3-4 years i just mix a little of the both as well as “healthier” things like exercise and fasting. Now i just listen to my body and just try to maintain.

Having labels and rules on myself always led to self sabotage. Finally giving in and allowing myself to eat what I need/want conquered my binging and yo-yoing. I’ve been dieting my entire adult life and yet always overweight. I now feel in control and making huge progress in my goals. ❤️❤️

On similar journey, trying to heal my metabolism after decades of restrictive and disordered eating. But also have been overweight since I was a teen, and was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance when I was 15. Also coeliac. So had “reasons” for being restrictive, but nothing has ever helped me to lose the weight, so restrictions just got more severe. Doing hardcore intermittent fasting and zero carbs by end of it, while every few days having binge eating episode. Bad news. Am 2 months into new eating regime, PHFF meals, 3 meals a day, lots of rest and balancing weights with walking, making sure I eat breakfast, focusing on hunger and satiety cues, incorporating more carbs… and I’ve gained 10lbs, which is freaking me out so much. I KNOW the gain makes sense, but also as someone who has been told that weight gain with PCOS and IR is a serious health threat for decades, I’m finding it difficult to make peace with, and just allow my body to adjust. Any advice from scientifically/nutritionally savvy folks who know about PCOS, super super appreciated.

Stephanie’s journey has been so inspiring to me, and I want to believe that it’s just a matter of time to let my body settle, but I’m coming at it from a place of ill-health and complications, so am really scared of making everything worse.

I can’t wait to get here. My therapists recommended watching your videos (I follow on Instagram, but never paid much attention). 10+ years of an eating disorder and an obvious horrible relationship with food. I hope to heal mentally and physically, stop obsessing over food 24/7 and never go back to starving and/or binging and purging. Let the healing begin!

ive been recovering from anorexia for a few months and the challenge foods are so important! my dietician says 1-2 challenge foods a week is good and it doesn't matter the calories or anything it's just trying food u wouldn't normally eat for whatever reason (for example, getting tacos at chipotle instead of a burrito bowl, whatever sounds good that u wouldn't normally let yourself eat).
this has helped me along with implimenting my fear foods on a daily basis. there are now about 4 fear foods i eat on a daily basis that i genuinely enjoy and no longer hold power over me because i eat them so often.

No yeah that literally happened to me! Every time i had a cheat meal after starving myself for months , i would binge and my excuse was “i need to eat the whole pizza because this is the last time I will have it in a long time”

This is a really helpful video. Struggling to allow myself to eat what I want especially carbs or 'unhealthy' foods. Its keto and carnivore along with social pressures to look a certain way that have gotten me into this no so good way of being. I was wondering could you do a video to discuss this? I can hear the advocates claiming 'I never cheat' or 'cheat days are bad and you should never eat processed food.' They give out great advice but this dichotomy is a terrible thing. Thanks Steph. 17:52 idk about all this. U must weight yourself everyday or every 2 days, weight yourself is is what make u know your in the weight that feel good to u and tracing that. Not weight yourself then next month realizing u gained 20, 30, etc. IS A NIEGHTMARE. peace

the problem with intuitive eating, for me, is i will get these really strong cravings, i'll feel full but still want to eat more delicious food, candy, etc. i haven't felt satisfied stopping when i was full in years, so i will constantly over eat to the point of feeling sick and bloated every evening. it's never just "eat the piece of cake", rather "eat 4 pieces and then feel terrible". maybe i am subconsciously still not fully letting go. i wonder if this means i'm not ready for intuitive eating yet, or if it's just not for me because i love food too much. anyone else experience this?
p.s.: thank you so much for continuing to raise awareness and speak about these topics in such a non judgemental, open way 🙂
