This was tough but I got it done!
Here are two of the best cardio muscular workouts that we used to do in Recon in The Corps back in the mid 70's. I am 63 now and have to dial the super sets/reps down but I still do them to this day behind my condo on the beach. The sets/reps listed are from when I was 21 and a Recon Marine, as I stated above just lower the reps/supersets to adjust for your fitness level. This is the lesser of the two evils: 1/4 run at speed, followed by 20 dumbell or kettlebell swings, then max pullups, that is one superset. With NO rest repeat 5 cycles/super sets. As I recall I typically used 55 lb or 60 lb dumbbells for the swings and the swings went between the legs and must go past your head at the top. A very good workout but no where as hard as this one: This one had two variations, the swim variation and the run variation, I will detail the swim variation but just substitute sprint up the dunes 60 yards and walk or trot back for the swim portion and you will have the run variation (which is Much harder then the swim variation)…As: 50 pushups in the sand at the wave line, then swim out to the breakers then body surf/swim back in, 100 mountain climbers with each leg, Swim, then 50 bends and thrusts, Swim, then 25 Burpees (must jump and clap hands over head or they do not count), Swim…Repeat this cycle/superset 5 to 7 times. It will be exhausting and can push you to hallucinations, etc. so you can take some time to recover while swimming/body surfing in. Note: All pushups and burpee pushups must touch chest to ground or water or they do not count. The running variation is much harder as you don't get any cool down time in the water, so the walk back after the 60 yard sprint up the dune can be quite slow as the workout gets into the 5th through 7th cycles/super sets. As I said I am 63 now and limit the reps to about 25 to 15 (I do 50 each leg for mountain climbers) and the cycles/super sets to usually between two and three and sometimes four.
