You all need to chill the f*ck out with her "over-squeezing her glutes" at the top because of the fear that it can round the lumbar spine. If you just experience it for yourself, it is possible to squeeze the glutes at the top WITHOUT rounding the lumbar spine. How? You need co-activation of your deep abdominals, back muscles, and quads to keep your spine neutral. If you look closely at her spine, it's not overly rounding. Look at the tone in her back and abs. Try it for your self. Turn-off your deep abdominals, back muscles, and quads, and just do a glute squeeze/posterior-pelvic tilt at the top. Of course, you are going to round your spine. Now, try turning off your glutes, and just use your back and quads to get to the top. You're either going to end up in a bird-dip position or an overly arched/hip flexed position. It's all about balance and coordinating all the right muscles together.

She did great considering how intense this workout was. I’d almost say it was too intense. This is likely going to put her out of lower body exercises for the rest of the week with how sore she is going to be. Her muscles are not used to this amount of stress. Being able to get quality less intense sets across the span of 3 workouts seems more realistic and more productive as long as progressive overload is implemented. Especially considering she is not striving to be a professional athlete or powerlifter.

I am a begginer, have not tried the smith machine before, should I try it this way? Start with the bar and then work my way up like her right away and then go back down?
