I had two knee surgeries from football about 30 years ago. I have no complications and still play basketball at 50 due to using the leg extension machine. It builds the Muscles around your knee. Smh

I have had total knee replacement on both knees. Being a Construction Lineman, my knees were very strong. Now, they need to be brought back by exercise. Kent

Keep doing those leg extensions Scott; plenty of people have needed knee replacements from this stupid exercise; Athlean-x is right on this one again

Alot of folks are focused on heavy 4 everything!! You're joints need a break!@ Its good to mix it up. My # key focus is workout 4 your enjoyment mental conditioning. Staying healthy. Not worrying about I need to get bigger. My enjoyment comes first everything else will trickle in!!

much love, Scott! I must say I felt really frustrated after watching this video claiming extensions are bad, one because it is
my favorite quad focused movement and there are only two leg machines at the gym I train at. thank you for restoring my faith and ability to train smart.

This exercise is what my Physical Therapist recommended after my knee tendon was torn partially. After 3 weeks of therapy the pain reduced but never gone. Till I started using this.

I've been experiencing knee pain for a few months, and this week I tried quad extension for the first time and almost all the tension in my knee went away on the very first set. It blew my mind how much relief I got from it.

Should you or should you not lock your knees at the top?

I’ve recently been having knee pains from this machine. As a 6’6” 350 lb (not fat) man I can lift more than the machine has to offer, 3-4 sets of 10-15 with over 250lbs. However I think if dropped the weight and did as Scott does, I’ll get a good burn and take the pain away

You're an idiot. Leg extensions might build muscle but they absolutely harm the knee joint. Just as steroids help build muscle, they are dangerous. Ask any reputable orthopedic surgeon or physical therapist (not talking about muscle heads whose only concern is getting bigger) and they will explain to you how the leg extension harms the knee in multiple ways. Lastly, to whine (and self-promote) about actual experts who disagree with you is pathetic. Let me guess….you don't think you should wear a mask to protect others from COVID, and are convinced you know more than the experts. Being dumb is one thing….being dumb and thinking you're smart is pathetic.

One thing I not agree is the period of rest time, I think rest one to two minutes can help your muscles gain more, because every time you need to wait for your strength all the way almost one hundred percent recovered so that every set you can do your best with heavier weight and more reps, so you need a longer time to recover you strength instead of do in in 30 second of rest then do the next set, agree or not this is my opinion. I agree legs extension can target more and gain more of your quandricept

I took me years to recover from leg extension injuries.

Its a great warm up but don't use it to build muscle. Stick to squats.

I think you just highlighted the key to exercise: control. I’m not certain anymore that increased weight means as much as people believe, especially if you haven’t gotten there through control. You can always control things so well that you make the weights heavier than they are, without putting the kind of unnecessary stress on your body that leads to injury. I’ve made better gains at home with one set of dumbbells during the covid hoax after quitting my gym so not to be a mask moron. Just had to rethink control, go slow, make it heavy in my mind.

what about the angle of the foot pad? you adjusted it to rest on the ankle but depending on each person shouldn't that pad be at a higher angle so you don't start the exercise with your knees in 90 degrees or less? i have patellar tendinitis and starting from that position you just used fucks up my knees even worse. so?

Thank you for explaining that! I never knew that. My knees would hurt, but I was using heavy weight. Changing it now and try it “Only” controlled weight.

I had a partial tear of the meniscus a few years back. Is this exercise O.K. for that? I plan to use low weight, and slow contraction on the way up, and down. * Same question for leg curls.

This is great! A solid demo with a relevant explanation. It seems like every other fitness instructor on youtube goes out of their way to talk the audience to death while NOT giving solid demonstrations and info like this one generously gives.

Hey Scott I know this is a old video but I have had knee problems in the past I’ve dislocated my left knee and have had ocd lesion in both knees. It feels wierd on my left knee almost like my knee cap is going to far over if that makes sense. I was wondering if I should find some other exercises for quad the only problem is I work out from home so I only have a barbell I was going to do squats and leg extensions for quads and now I don’t know what to do.

if you have a fucked up knee (like a torn ACL) avoid this exercise at all cost.
it'll fuck your knees if you have an injury.
