Foundations Of Shoulder Stand | Candle Pose | Yoga With Adriene – Yoga With Adriene

by YouTube Team

Foundations Of Shoulder Stand, Sarvangasana, The Candle Pose for Beginners! In this Foundations Of Yoga video, Adriene guides a practice of Shoulder Stand for beginners. Though not for everybody, Shoulder Stand is known as the mother of all asanas! There are benefits to learning the prep work for this pose allowing you to work at your own pace, safely, and with controlled breathing. Inversions can seem intimidating, but done correctly, at your own pace, and with neck integration and awareness, it’s possible to enjoy the revitalizing benefits they have to offer at any stage. Benefits of this practice include, increase in immunity, healthy blood flow, healthy digestion, as well as an opportunity to soothe the nervous system and any irritation, with regular practice.

For this video, you will need two blankets or towels. Remember to focus on the process and the journey rather than the endpoint as we explore the postures of bridge, plough, fish, and shoulder stand.

Be mindful and remember, the breath always comes first. Hop into something comfy and let’s get inverted!

Please, speak to your doctor if you think inversions may not be right for you.

EXPAND day 25, I decided to do the first 20 minutes, but my body/hamstrings couldn't actually go up so I spent the remaining 10 minutes against a wall practicing going up and down, it was great💞

I was a bit frustrated with this one because a good 10 years ago I was able to just go up into shoulder stand in a live class. However I probably was just rushing through to get to the pose. Adriene's instructions are very thorough and challenging.

Today I couldn't get into plow in the middle of the room, so I needed to move to another room where I could put my legs up the wall and push off it to get into plow and shoulder stand. It's a great thing I was near a wall because when trying to get my legs perpendicular to the floor my weight shifted too much and the wall gently caught my foot instead of a painful crashing to the floor.

Lately I've been struggling with expectations. I've been doing the YWA calendar since late April. Part of my brain thought that with daily exercise I "should" achieve a certain level of strength and frustrated that I haven't.

However since starting daily YWA my chiropractor has seen a HUGE improvement in my spine, my joint pain has decreased, and I even managed to reduce my daily SSRI by 50mg.

There are clear benefits to doing a daily yoga practice, just the changes are slow and subtle.

This is so fun and it takes me back to how we used to do this when we were kids. Not knowing we must be careful in executing this pose as I do it now.

Expand Day 25
“Your practice is about process and journey”, I cannot begin to tell you how much truth this holds for me. I first did this practice on Inquire Day 32 (YWA August 2020) and even though this is only my second time practicing with this video, the amount of progress I’ve made, not just in the physical body and pose/posture but mentally, emotionally, energetically and as a person on the whole, it is astonishing! And as always, it’s a journey! So I can’t wait to see what’s next! Thank you for the amazing practice! Namaste🙏🧘‍♂️❤️

Amazing Adriene 🙋🏻‍♀️😊🌺This was the only practice I missed from June's calendar and decided to do it today; Just the perfect choice, what my body was needing, I was with low energy to do 40 minutes…Then you even finished reminding us about the process and is exactly the theme of this July! Amazing synchronicity, best yoga for today, feeling a good energy; Tomorrow my July will start with 2 practice in one day the get the correct flow! 🧘🏻‍♀️🌺🥇
