Workout, Eat, Sleep repeat…. then eventually REST!! Simple formula for gains!
I fear if I stop training I will loose the momentum and get lazy. Really need a break. Thank you for this reminder.Love your channel.
Please revisit videos on how to build a program
Good periodization works really well to serve this same purpose for those gym junkies out there that don't wanna take time off.
During my 7 days off from the gym, can I still go on runs / do cardio without it ruining my CNS recovery?
Workout, Eat, Sleep – Spot on Brother! 💪💪😄
Your neck veins are freaky when you shout! 😅
Thanks! Due to autoimmune disease I've only been managing 2 HIT workouts per week and fast walks with my dogs in between and felt a bit like a loser. Even though it's not really de-training, this video made me feel better!
are you on drugs?
Hey @ScottHermanFitness !! After 2 different routines per month (8 weeks of heavy training) how much time do you recommend to rest and detraining?
Ok what if you're, like me, working out less often? I go to gym aprox 3 times a week so that means I take 1 – 2 days off between every gym session. I guess you mean for those who work out almost everyday but just a thought.
His Boston accent comes and goes. He's working HAHD to neutralize it.
What should our diet be like when we take time off? Eat at maintenance? Continue in surplus? I’d love to hear from others too. Thanks for the years of helpful content Scott!
I see Scott still hasn't mastered breathing while talking.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT ALSO STOPS MUSCLE GROWTH? PRICE GOUGING ALL THE DAMN EQUIPMENT ON EBAY. WTF!!!!
How can somebody like you sell his own programs and suplements when you don't even look athletic or simply good ? Like you're not even strong. I am genuinely asking.
I guess we dont have to worry about that people need more rest, at least in my experience with people Who train. Most of them (about 80%)dont even train consistent enough to be in need of rest.
Consistency makes the difference.
But you got a point Scott, sometimes the body needs a kind of "reset".
For me Maximum one scheduled day off per month ( were you would normally train) but i do that around 6 Times a year.
Not enough rest or ego lifting.
Taking a break from exhaustive exercise is good. But I always fear it will lead easily into laziness and complete abandonment of workout routines.
Great video! I've pushed past way past overtraining just to see how far I could go, and it is like slow death. My muscles refused to grow after a while. I was sore more than usual. Not hungry. Took time off. Came back at it with different lifts. Boom! Gains.
DOMS…omfg the pain is unreal
It's hard to take time off at the gym, especially when you're natural. The desire to see visual progress is very strong. This is a good topic. Bring it back into the discussion so we can figure this out.
I'm a new lifter and I was lifting consistently for about 5 months without much of a break. And then I decided to take a few weeks off from the gym. To my surprise I set PR's in almost all of my lifts.
Scott no shoulders no traps mediocre herman washed out fitness. Greg left you in the dust.
Sounds good
Thanks for the advice
I started working out again after a 3 month break because I couldn't get protein due to quarantine. My biceps looked like they were back to being flat but in a month of working out, they are bigger than they ever were. So this is why.
So, where are all the science and studies? lol

This is real, after hard trainings… resting at home even for 1-2 days will relax my body. Then after that, lifting weights will be a happier experience. Just don't forget to warm up for better blood circulation.
Before I go to gym I watch your videos.
Hi
Just watched your video so are you saying we should not workout for one week or more.not even every other day.how about if you train a different muscle group
Thanx
After taking a week off, do you recommend starting the first week back with the original weight before the break, or, would you recommend starting with less weight to ‘ease into it’ before going back to the original weight and progress from there?
