If anything, FOX did the “robbing”…of a woman’s life! In no way shape or form was FOX robbed of the ‘83 Olympia! Bannout deserves the title hands down! Bannout was better than FOX in every aspect besides mass
Bertil Fox was the only contemporary bodybuilder of that era that could go head to head with Sergio Oliva… matching him pound for pound…

Bertil Fox was once quoted as saying, "He got into bodybuilding because he had a desire to get as big and as strong as he possibly could and not because he liked the symmetry of a ballet dancer". He was definitely robbed…the judges of that day were confused with the direction that bodybuilding should go. Believe it or not, a lot of the judges of the 80s stopped looking at size and mass but instead scored on the aethstic and symmetry look (Zane & Bannout) that one could bring to the stage. In my view, body building is and will always be about building size as well as proportion.

I had the Good Fortune of Seeing the Pics in the Muscle and Fitness Issue that Year and I will Tell You Now, Samir was Shredded!!! Striations and Lines Everywhere. I actually Hated Him for Beating My Idol Zane but Anyone Could See He Was the Best On Stage that Day. I would Fersure put Bertil 2Nd. But Let’s Really think about it. You’re Top 6, You Get a Check. Here’s the Deal. If You Aren’t 1ST, You’re Last! It Doesn’t Matter Who Came in 2ND-6TH. Bertil Took it Personally and that’s where things Fell apart. When I Competed at a Show in San Jose, I was Lucky Enough to Meet Lee Haney and Like Everyone Else who Meets Him, He Is The Nicest Guy And Classiest Fellow You Will Ever Meet. I think I placed 3RD or 4TH and He Told Me that He Had Me Higher. Imagine that. A Mr.Olympia Telling a Young Bodybuilder You Should have Been Higher. And Of Course, He Blew My Mind When I was Right Next to Him As He Pumped Up For Guest Posing. Just Outrageously Huge and Cut! This was 1985 or 86. I Brought this All Up for Contrast. Lee was an Ambassador, a Friendly Guy Who Knew How to Play the Game of Life. Kindness Gets You Everywhere. Fox, on the other Hand took things Personally that Just Should Not Have Been Taken that Way. I Might Be able to Understand a Disappointment that You Got Cheated Out of 1ST Place but that was not the Situation. And Even if it were, you have to Quickly Shift You Focus to Next Year. That’s How Dorian Yates was and Look where it took him. In anything in life, there is Always a Little Politics So If You Want to Compete You Have to Put On that Political Hat.
Fox was robbed, what you didn't mention was that Arnold Schwarzenegger and all the other guys were sure fox would win it.

I was into bodybuilding during this time. Always thought Fox was in the top 2during his era. I always felt Lee Haney was overrated . Just my opinion.. Fox was definitely got screwed. No doubt.
Samir in 1983 was the most perfect pro BB to have ever stepped on the stage. He had zero weaknesses. He had the back that Mike Mentzer, who had scored the perfect score in 1978 and 1979, never had. Excellence in human form.
From the pictures I’ve seen, which admittedly have not been many, Fox should have placed second in my opinion.
bertil should have won or at least come second ,it might be because he never smiled and looked too serious ,iv always thought

Not just 1983 Mr olympia but several other olympia events too an unfortunate victim of politics n conspiracy because I don't see any other valid reason for him not winning he had incredible physique better than hayney
Nah, Bertil didn't destroy Haney in the side chest at all.
Better arms yes, but other than that its just the angle of the shot.
Plus Haney was taller, and Bertil didn't have a great lat spread ( no rear lat spread in his posing routine )
Bertil was about the same height as Samir.
I'm not a Bertil hater, but he was just unlucky this year, he wasn't robbed.
